Job Description

The Senior Director, Operating Partner, Infrastructure, who is part of the global valuation team, works directly with the Infrastructure team in the Asia Pacific region, the portfolio company management teams and CDPQ support functions. They will support this team for value creation mandates in a selection of investments in addition to participating in cross-functional initiatives in the portfolio. They will rely on the team of centralized analysts and a network of external experts and consultants, as required.

Responsibilities include:

  • For investment files, develop the post-investment management strategy jointly with the regional infrastructure team.
  • For portfolio companies (3–5):
    • Monitor the operational performance of portfolio companies, actively participate in infrastructure portfolio review meetings, propose priorities and objectives for CDPQ as a shareholder;
    • Proactively identify opportunities to create value and/or reduce risks, consistent with CDPQ’s investment thesis;
    • Work with the Infrastructure team to note and ensure that companies are implementing these areas of improvement;
    • Interact with the risk management team on performance and operations issues;
    • In collaboration with the Infrastructure team, participate in the evaluation of management teams and the officer selection process, and develop long-term incentive plans in line with CDPQ’s interests;
    • Participate in certain boards of directors as a director or observer, represent CDPQ and demonstrate an ability to influence;
    • Participate in the selection process for external directors appointed by CDPQ (if applicable);
    • Ensure the implementation of CDPQ’s operational policies;
  • Lead performance improvement actions on an ad hoc basis in other Infrastructure portfolio assets;
  • Develop tools and best practices for asset management and valuation, and actively participate in the continuous improvement process in accordance with CDPQ standards;
  • Participate in recruiting and facilitating a network of external experts for portfolio assets and functional areas of expertise.

On each of the mandates within the portfolio assets, the operational partner will have to demonstrate their ability to work effectively with CDPQ’s Infrastructure team.

Experience:

  • 15-20 years of experience, including a minimum of 5 years in operational roles or functions. Additional consulting experience is an asset;
  • Graduate, engineering or law degree. MBA or CFA designation is an asset;
  • Good knowledge of Asian markets, particularly India and Australia;
  • Experience in the management of companies or group subsidiaries, particularly in Asia Pacific;
  • Conduct of transformation projects with a tangible impact;
  • Experience in one or more sectors of the infrastructure market, including transportation, road, renewable energy and telecommunications;
  • Expertise in a number of functional areas (operational performance, procurement, IS, HR, etc.);
  • Expertise in corporate restructuring, process optimization or digitalization is an asset;
  • Professional fluency in English. Knowledge of French is a plus.
