Job Purpose

Responsible for managing all sales and training for Surgical/Instrumentation products. The focus is on maximizing sales and profits in the short and long term for Alcon products in own responsibility, working with the marketing & business functions and spending time in the field interfacing with key customers and internal & external stakeholders. Furthermore, the role is responsible for developing talent and a strong culture within the Surgical franchise.

Major Accountabilities

  1. P&L performance accountability: Responsible for driving the P&L growth and delivering targeted profit contribution for the Business Unit. Delivers high quality sales reporting and forecasting.

Go-to-market and sales execution support

  1. Manages day-to-day sales force including targeting, sizing, messaging, covering etc.
  2. Executes GTM model tailoring approach as needed in market.
  3. Build strong relationships and advocacy with key customers, KOLs based on good business acumen and identifying customer needs.
  4. Builds trust-based relationships with customers, stakeholders, supports Alcon market position & reputation. Represents Alcon with industry associations.

Franchise Strategy

  1. Develop and execute short-, mid- and long-term vision of Surgical business franchise business plans.
  2. Deliver full commercial plan including new products launch to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Identify opportunities and challenges, and develop actionable business plans to address them.
  4. Assess market trends, competitor activities, and internal capabilities to drive long-term business success.

Cross-functional franchise leadership and alignment

  1. Collaborate with IMG and marketing to execute marketing plans and programs in alignment with International Marketing guidelines.
  2. Effectively use country budget to execute the business strategy and tactic including new product launches.
  3. Perform Marketing Intelligence activities to anticipate competitive moves.
  4. Maintain effective communication and collaboration amongst cross functions.
  5. Foster constructive working culture of collaboration and influence with all enabling function teams and stakeholders.

Commercial Capability Building

  1. Contribute to develop employee’s commercial capabilities via training based on development needs and plans.
  2. Provide coaching to team members to build capabilities and accelerate professional growth.
  3. Closely work with Commercial Surgical Training team and HR to build and upskill overall capabilities of business franchise team.

People engagement & development and build strong culture

  1. Lead Surgical Franchise on all people management issues, including selection, retention, engagement & development processes and succession pipeline.
  2. Accountable to provide direction, leadership, coaching, developmental plans of direct reports and rapidly acting on non-performers - coaches, counsels, supports, and when needed, terminates.
  3. Creating and leading a high performing team including training and allocation of country field force resources and personnel.
  4. Foster an engaging and inclusive workplace culture.
  5. Sets the tone of a culture of integrity and ensures legal and ethical conduct, corporate compliance, and adherence to company guidelines and procedures.
  6. Lead by example, create an environment that encourages open and respectful communication, collaboration and respect for diverse perspectives.

Education

  1. Minimum: Bachelor Degree
  2. Preferred: Major in Business Administration / Medical Engineering / Bioengineering / Ophthalmology or other related, and / or Master Degree in Business Administration

Experience

  1. Minimum 15 years of broad healthcare industry experience in progressive managerial positions preferably in the medical device, pharmaceutical and/or consumer industry.
  2. Successful track record for delivering P&L through sizeable teams in a sustainable way.
  3. Demonstrated strategic thinking and ability to develop robust business plans.
  4. Deep understanding and experience in managing multi-function business operations; Experience building and leading cross functional teams and influencing within a matrix environment.
  5. Experience in commercial execution, product strategy, brand marketing, portfolio management.
  6. Leadership experience, and proven ability to develop talent pipeline with a diversity mindset approach; ability to generate an engaging and inclusive culture.

Languages

Fluency in English essential. Knowledge/Fluency of at least one other language preferred.
