Position Summary
The Merchandising Manager will be responsible for developing and executing merchandising strategies that drive sales, maximize profitability, and enhance the customer shopping experience. This role involves collaboration with various departments, including marketing, logistics, and store operations, to ensure cohesive and effective merchandising plans.
Key Responsibilities
Merchandising Strategy
- Develop and implement merchandising strategies that align with company goals and market trends.
- Analyze sales data and market research to identify opportunities and challenges.
- Create seasonal and promotional plans to drive sales and customer engagement.
Product Selection and Placement
- Source and collaborate with vendors on product assortments, negotiate on margin requirement, payment terms and brand support
- Plan and oversee product placement and visual displays in stores.
- Ensure merchandise is presented in a way that maximizes sales and enhances the customer experience.
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the supply chain team to ensure optimal stock levels.
- Conduct regular inventory analysis to identify slow-moving and high-performing products.
- Develop strategies to manage markdowns and clearance items.
Visual Merchandising
- Create and implement visual merchandising guidelines and standards.
- Design store layouts and window displays that attract and retain customers.
- Share with store staff on best practices and ensure compliance with brands’ guidelines.
Sales Analysis and Reporting
- Analyze sales performance and develop action plans to address any issues.
- Prepare regular reports on merchandising performance, including sales trends, inventory levels, and customer feedback.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with marketing, store operations, and other departments to ensure cohesive execution of merchandising plans.
- Communicate merchandising plans and updates to store teams.
- Provide guidance and support to store managers and visual merchandisers.
Market and Trend Analysis:
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences.
- Conduct market research to identify new product opportunities and emerging trends.
- Use insights to inform merchandising strategies and product selections.
Budget Management
- Manage the merchandising budget and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure favorable terms and pricing.
- Monitor and control expenses related to merchandising activities.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of merchandising experience in a retail or FMCG environment.
• Proven track record of driving profit margins and curating merchandise assortment.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
