Job description
Job Purpose
The medical technologist performs and interprets non-invasive examinations of patients with cardiology diseases in order to provide a diagnosis as well as an evaluation of the extent of the disease to enable the clinicians to plan the appropriate treatment and management. Incumbent who is qualified for senior position will also be responsible of the overall running of the Cardiology Diagnostic Centre under the direction of the Head of Clinical Measurement Centre, providing prompt, accurate and reliable services. Senior position will also undertake duties of greater responsibilities including supervision, quality assurance, budgeting laboratory expenses as well as carry out research projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)
Perform the following non-exhaustive list of prescribed cardiovascular tests:
Set up 24-hr Ambulatory Holter/Blood Pressure monitoring
12-lead ECG
Signal-Averaged ECG
Device checks
Cardiopulmonary Exercise test
2D Echocardiography
Transthoracic Esophageal Echocardiography
Treadmill Exercise Stress Test
Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography
Exercise Stress Echocardiography
Assist the doctor in:
Cardiac Nuclear Perfusion Scan
Coronary Angiogram/Angioplasty procedures
Electrophysiological Studies
Perform procedures in a manner to ensure patient confidentiality, safety, comfort and privacy.
Carry out procedures to ensure patient confidentiality, safety, comfort and privacy.
Demonstrate competent clinical skills and knowledge in the delivery of patient care.
Demonstrate proper and economical use of consumables and supplies.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Secondary Responsibilities and Duties (20%)
Participate in clinical and service quality projects
Maintenance of medical equipment
Participate in regular department audits
Senior position to administer department budgets and service planning
Attend in-service lectures, courses and seminars relevant to job scope.
Senior position to supervise and train junior member of staff to ensure maintenance of standards, safety and quality control.
Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by Head of department.
Participate in research projects, senior position will be expected to lead a project within 2 years of joining.
Job Specifications
Qualification & Experience
Degree in Medical Technology/Biomedical Science. Senior position will require minimum of 3 years of related work experience in cardiology diagnostic area.
Accreditation by professional society e.g. ARDMS will be an added advantage.
Skill and Knowledge
Computer literacy
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certified
