Summary
Reporting to the DPA, as the Marine Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that your assigned fleet of vessels is in compliance with IMS and all relevant international rules and regulations. In addition, you will be performing your duties in accordance with our company’s quality, health, safety, environmental and ethics policies. You will be monitoring vessels’ continuous performance improvement plan, ensuring timely periodical reports are submitted.

Responsibilities

• Comply with IMS and all relevant international rules and regulations
• Ensure all duties are performed in accordance with quality, health, safety, environmental and ethics policies
• Propose a continuous performance improvement plan which will be reported and reviewed on a periodical basis
• Assist in QHSSE responsibilities for assigned vessels
• Perform on-duty tasks when assigned
• Ensure:
• The implementation of the Integrated Management System and the Ship Security Plan
• Good communication between ashore departments and the vessels
• Assigned vessels are properly manned, maintained, equipped and in a seaworthy condition
• Management and follow-up of ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISO, and flag audits
• QSSE audit or inquiry onboard assigned and designated vessel
• Monitoring of corrective and preventive actions
• Perform training for shore department and ship staff
• Participate in regulations monitoring
• Be the contact point for flag administrations and support Fleet department with classification societies (RO)
• Participate in the Emergency Response Team when concerned

Minimum requirements

• Sailing experience as Captain (or minimally as an experienced Chief Officer) on-board merchant ships, preferably container vessels
• Trained in ISM and ISO Internal audits, CSO and accident investigations
• Knowledge in QHSE management
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English
• Ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment
• Physical ability to perform audits onboard ships
• Able to travel aboard for ship visits/inspections regularly
