The workplace is a key setting where most adult Singaporeans spend the majority of their day. With a growing ageing workforce, it is crucial for companies to take proactive steps to positively influence their employee’s health and to support the employee to remain productive and healthy.
The Sectoral Workplace Outreach Department promotes healthy living to workers in priority sectors including cleaning, education, food and beverage, healthcare, retail, security, transport and logistics, and self-employed workers with the aim to enable these workers to age healthily. We partner workplaces and key stakeholders to adopt policies and guidelines to promote workplace health and provide consultancy and resources that they need to implement a health promoting environment for their employees. The key areas of health include health screening and chronic disease management, physical activity, nutrition, mental health, and smoking cessation.
For programme evaluation, beyond monitoring access and participation, we measure health impact outcomes. Some questions that we ask include:
- What is the change in behaviour for participants of this programme? (e.g. change in minutes of physical activity, or change in healthier meals consumed)
- How does our programme directly or indirectly affect participants’ habit adoption?
- Comparing data from last month to this month, what is the difference in impact?
- Is “X” indicator an appropriate measurement of success for this programme?
- What are other indicators we could use?
If you are passionate about healthy living and making a difference to the health of Singapore's workforce, we would like to invite you to join the team! We are seeking highly-motivated, dynamic team-players to join our Workplace Health team in promoting good health among the working population.
