Job description

SFA’s mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore. The officer will be part of SFA’s enforcement team to ensure the food in Singapore is wholesome and safe for human consumption.

Duties

The manager is required to:

  1. Plan and conduct inspections and surveys to ensure compliance with food safety requirements for food establishments and fisheries requirements for fishery industry and fishing vessel licensees/operators.
  2. Plan and conduct inspections and sampling for imported seafood and follow up with importers for missed inspections and measures for food that has failed regulatory tests. Initiate food recalls for unsafe food.
  3. Attend to food safety feedback in licensed food establishments, including One Health and non-One Health gastroenteritis incidents.
  4. Investigate and follow up on public/industry feedback related to local food establishments and fisheries issues, working across various government agencies.
  5. Conduct enforcement against any breaches of food safety and fisheries legislation and licensing conditions, including standing in court for prosecution cases.
  6. Plan and conduct targeted operations to prevent and deter unsafe food practices or fisheries issues, including developing public communication materials.
  7. Conduct review, develop initiatives, and lead projects related to food safety/fisheries issues, engaging and collaborating with relevant stakeholders.
  8. Support service of exigencies.

The officer should also be open to job rotation to other areas of work in SFA as part of career development.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Environmental Studies or Food Science/Food Technology/Chemistry/Life Sciences/Biology or a related discipline.

Other Requirements:

  1. Adaptive and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  2. Good communication and writing skills.
  3. Team player, good interpersonal skills, and resourceful.
  4. Physically fit to perform job duties, including vessel boarding.
  5. Knowledge and experience in Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF) issues and food-related disciplines is an advantage.
  6. Possess a valid Class 3 driving license and ability to drive a vehicle for work is an advantage.
  7. Knowledge and relevant experience in fields like economics, business development, food science or engineering, data analytics/management is useful.
  8. Willing to work outside normal office hours, including weekends and public holidays if required.
  9. Able to use Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of data analytical tools is a plus.
  10. Open to consider other work areas beyond the scope/duties.
