Legal Counsel (min 5 PQE) – Oil & Gas (Downstream)

This is a newly created Legal Counsel position at a leading oil & gas player, reporting directly to the CEO. The role offers high visibility within the organization and the opportunity to make a significant impact by providing expert legal guidance across various facets of the business. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor on corporate commercial, governance, regulatory, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide legal counsel on a broad range of corporate commercial issues, including contract review, negotiation, and management.
2. Advise on corporate governance matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
3. Manage regulatory and compliance matters, ensuring adherence to industry-specific requirements.
4. Collaborate with key stakeholders, including executive leadership, to support business strategies and initiatives.
5. Identify and mitigate legal risks, working proactively to address potential issues.
6. Oversee external counsel when necessary.

Key Requirements:

1. Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE), with a strong background in corporate commercial law.
2. Prior experience in the oil & gas sector is essential, with a particular focus on downstream operations highly regarded.
3. Proven track record in providing regulatory and compliance advice in a complex business environment.
4. Strong understanding of corporate governance frameworks.
5. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely with senior management and external stakeholders.
