Legal Counsel – Financial Institution

Ashford Benjamin are instructed on a 12 month contract position for a VP/Director level lawyer to join a global financial institution in Singapore. This is an excellent opportunity for an immediately available lawyer with a background in general banking, structured products, or derivatives to provide legal support to several rapidly growing business lines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Advise the business on a broad range of matters including general lending, project finance, and finance-related hedging.
2. Provide legal guidance on listed structured products work, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
3. Support the business on various transactions, working closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
4. Draft, review, and negotiate documentation relating to finance and derivatives transactions.

Key Requirements

1. Law degree (preferably English or Commonwealth law qualification) with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house role.
2. Strong understanding of Singapore banking, financing, and securities laws and regulations, with familiarity in related areas of law and the regulatory environment.
3. Proven experience in structuring, drafting, and negotiating legal documents for bank financing, including familiarity with standard banking documents (LMA/APLMA).
4. Ideally immediately available.
5. Must be a Singapore PR or hold an EP.
