Legal Counsel

Job Overview

This role is responsible for providing legal guidance on maritime issues, shipping contracts, and international trade regulations with a focus on the trading of oil and gas commodities. You will work closely with internal teams across legal, operations, and commercial departments to ensure compliance with international laws and optimize risk management strategies for global trade activities.

The ideal candidate is familiar with international trade law and maritime law, with good experience in advising on shipping contracts and trade regulations in the commodity trading sector. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, handling complex legal challenges related to shipping and trade.

Job Responsibilities

1. Provide legal services and support to Trading businesses.
2. Prepare, review, and advise on contracts and other legal matters, as required.
3. Negotiate and resolve disputes in relation to Trading and other businesses.
4. Maintain compliance with laws and internal regulations with regards to Trading and other businesses.
5. Monitor and keep abreast of any changes in the law and advise the Management on the impact of such on the business and operations, recommending strategies and solutions for compliance when necessary.

Job Requirements

1. Possess a good LLB degree from a recognized university.
2. Minimum 2 years of legal experience.
3. Post-Qualified Experience with litigation background will be an added advantage.
4. Knowledge of trade and shipping law will be an added advantage.
5. Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
6. Able to work independently as well as in a team.
