About The Role

The role of the Legal Counsel will be working in the Asia legal team, supporting on legal and regulatory matters relating to Swiss Re's businesses and operations in Southeast Asia.

The Legal Counsel will be expected to provide timely, commercially viable, practical and high-quality legal advice to enable effective oversight and management of legal risks in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and industry standards. The legal advice and support provided would include general corporate issues, regulatory and compliance issues, product development, insurance contracts and claims.

Main Responsibilities

1. Provide effective, commercially sound and practical legal advice on insurance business and operations
2. Advise on insurance contracts and claims
3. Conduct legal and regulatory review of transactions (draft documents, negotiate the terms), instructing and managing outside counsel (as needed)
4. Manage legal, regulatory & compliance issues relating to products, business strategies and operating models
5. Review and negotiate commercial agreements with business partners, agents or brokers
6. Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory trends affecting relevant business areas
7. Engage and collaborate with members of the Asia legal team, business and functions across various jurisdictions within and outside of Asia in the provision of cross border legal support
8. Support internal group projects and strategic initiatives, as needed
9. Support governance activities such as participating in management committee meetings and handling internal and external approvals on appointments and other governance related matters

About You

1. At least 12 – 15 years PQE, legal qualified lawyer from a reputable university
2. Good team player and able to work in a collaborative and agile environment
3. Able to work independently and collaborate with teams and stakeholders across various jurisdictions
4. Excellent written and spoken English and preferably an Asian language
5. Good communication and cross-cultural skills
6. Prior experience in insurance matters & multiple jurisdictions an advantage
7. Prior experience in and good understanding of regulatory and licensing topics in cross-border scenarios
8. Possess excellent drafting, negotiation and influencing skills
