Junior Economist

We are looking to add an Asia-based junior economist to our global macro team. The new joiner will be based in Singapore or Hong Kong.

YOUR ROLE

• Supporting the global macro team in building and updating a comprehensive macroeconomic scenario for the global economy and its key long-term trends.
• Supporting the global macro team in monitoring, analysis, and forecasting of major emerging markets around the world, with greater initial focus on those in Asia.
• Effectively communicating the house views to clients, media, and colleagues in meetings, interviews, and events and serving as the ambassador for the bank’s investment function in Asia.
• Contributing to the team’s overall workflow and carrying out all necessary tasks to enhance the value, efficiency, and quality of the team’s outputs.
• Providing back-up for other members of the global macro team in their respective duties if needed.

YOUR PROFILE

• At least an undergraduate degree in economics or a related field, preferably with an additional professional qualification such as CFA.
• 2-3 years of experience in a junior economist or research assistant role at an investment bank, asset manager, central bank, or other organizations specializing in economic and financial research.
• Reasonably good understanding of the structure, history, and politics of major emerging markets and their relevance to global investors.
• Demonstrable analytical skills and knowledge of economics and financial markets and familiarity with the asset management industry and its key trends.
• Ability to work with large data sets, develop and maintain databases, build or update macroeconomic models, visualize economic data, and make use of data terminals such as Bloomberg, Datastream, FactSet, or CEIC.
• Programming skills and familiarity with data management software (such as Python, Matlab, or R).
• Communication skills, presentation skills, and ability to write research publications.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and highest personal integrity.
• Autonomy and ambition needed to mature quickly into the role.
• Proficiency in English is a must, and fluency in the language of one of the major emerging markets is a plus.
