Dedicated to nurturing talent in Tamil media, this scholarship focuses on developing skills in news reporting, storytelling, and audience engagement. We're looking for passionate journalists eager to meet the challenges of the digital era and make a meaningful impact in the industry.

About the Scholarship

Mediacorp, supported by the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI), is excited to introduce the Tamil Media Scholarship—an initiative aimed at nurturing the next generation of Tamil newsroom professionals in Singapore. This scholarship offers passionate individuals the opportunity to build a career in Tamil journalism, providing them with the skills, mentorship, and academic support necessary to excel in a dynamic media landscape. Through this programme, we seek to develop talented individuals who will uphold the integrity of news reporting and contribute meaningfully to the Tamil-speaking community.

Academic Criteria

This scholarship is open to Singaporean talents who are:

  • Commencing full-time undergraduate studies in 2025, or

  • Currently pursuing full-time undergraduate degrees in all fields of study, except medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, architecture, or law.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic record in Secondary School / Institute of Technical Education / Polytechnic / Junior College / International Baccalaureate

  • A keen news sense and strong interest in local and international news, as well as current affairs

  • A good command of the Tamil language, both written and spoken

  • A dynamic team player with good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong leadership qualities as demonstrated in Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and National_Service (if applicable)

  • Uphold and maintain high standards of accuracy, objectivity, and timeliness

  • Singapore citizen or Singapore permanent resident

Scholarship Coverage

Successful applicants will receive support for:

  • Tuition and other compulsory university fees

  • A one-time grant for university-related expenses

  • Support for an exchange programme (subject to approval)

  • An internship stint with the Mediacorp Newsroom

Scholarship Obligation

Recipients of the Tamil Media Scholarship will be required to serve a bond with Mediacorp, which includes a secondment to the Translation Department at MDDI. Upon completing their studies, scholars will be assigned to the Mediacorp Tamil Newsroom, with a secondment to MDDI's Translation Department. Scholars, along with high-performing talent at Mediacorp, will have the opportunity to build a rewarding career with diverse pathways in the dynamic fields of journalism and media.
