Roles & Responsibilities

Job Description:

The Investment Director will have primary accountability for investment management activities in Ansible Ventures’ portfolio, from developing an investment strategy to sourcing investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, monitoring performance, and managing relationships with external managers. The Director will contribute to investment policy and asset allocation discussions, as well as the review and preparation of materials for board and other stakeholder engagement. Investment Directors are expected to participate in

discussions across the portfolio and are encouraged to contribute across asset classes. Thus, Investment Directors should have a deep knowledge of private investments as well as traditional equity products, hedge funds, and other alternative investment strategies.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage all aspects of Ansible Ventures from strategy to execution and relationship management.
  • Deal sourcing:

- Research and identify potential investment opportunities in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

- Attend and speak at various networking events to build a strong pipeline of startups.

- Conduct company and industry research to support the development of investment strategies/theses.

- Help establish the investment thesis and identification of value creation strategies and assist in developing ideas for transaction structures.

- Perform comprehensive valuation analyses.

  • Due Diligence:

- Evaluate startups' business models, financials, and growth potential.

- Assist in managing and scoping the due diligence process.

- Prepare investment committee presentation materials and other transaction documents.

- Assist in the review of legal documentation.

  • Investment Analysis - Create detailed investment memos and legal reviews, negotiate terms, and other reports to support investment decisions.
  • Portfolio Companies Support:

- Work closely with portfolio companies to provide support and resources as needed.

- Craft and monitor relevant key performance indicators for investee companies in order to anticipate key issues.

- Provide rigorous analysis and review of invested company budgeting and forecasting activities.

- Prepare reports to stakeholders on invested company performance.

- Undertake monthly valuations of invested companies.

- Assist in providing portfolio companies with the necessary analytical support.

  • Market Insights:

- Stay updated on industry trends, market dynamics, and competitive landscapes in Vietnam.

- Provide comprehensive updates to the CEO and investment team of relevant factors affecting current and prospective investments.

  • Administrative Tasks – Assist in social media efforts, event organization, and other administrative tasks as required.
  • Business Development - Contribute to developing asset allocation strategy and collaborate on investment opportunities where needed.
  • Investor Relations:

- Fundraise for Ansible Ventures and manage its investor relationships.

- Manage the preparation of quarterly, annual, and ad hoc analysis and presentations for investments administered.

  • Mentor and develop the skill sets of investment analysts and other investment employees.
  • Extensive travel to meet with current and potential investment companies, attend industry conferences, and develop relationships across the investment landscape.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Vietnamese startup ecosystem is a must.
  • Full working proficiency in Vietnamese and English is required.
  • Prior experience in private equity or investment banking is preferred.
  • Strong professional network within the venture capital community.
  • Knowledge of accounting, financial statements, and business process improvement.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and Bloomberg.
  • Fundamental understanding of financial markets, products, and services and experience analyzing investments – particularly venture capital and other private investments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial and technical information in an understandable manner to individuals and groups.
  • High integrity, strong work ethic, team orientation, and genuine intellectual curiosity are a must.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, both with respect to managing workload and own professional development.
