Job description

Invictus International School is seeking an energetic Teacher who is responsible to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the school’s Principal. The school envisioned to be the leading educational institution where each and every learner is developed holistically and given opportunities to flourish successfully.

This role offers potential for progression to a Head of Department (HoD) position for candidates demonstrating leadership qualities, curriculum expertise, and a commitment to academic excellence.

Purpose of Job

  • Working to the LM in maintaining high academic standards within their subject area.
  • To ensure that students are supported in their learning journey through Secondary School and set the highest aspirations for their students’ achievement and development, both in the classroom and through creating / highlighting opportunities outside the classroom.
  • Model and promote best practice in the teaching and learning in the subject.
  • Monitor and evaluate all aspects of the work of the subject and to respond appropriately to emergent issues ensuring that students are supported in their learning journey.
  • Provide holistic pastoral support and engage as appropriate with parents / home to support students’ journey at school.

Pedagogy:
Employing effective pedagogy that enables students to become successful learners who achieve personal excellence by:

  • Building learning-focused relationships.
  • Empowering students to become or prepare to be independent learners.
  • Using assessment information to plan progression for the differing needs of learners in class.
  • Using appropriate assessment tools for formative and summative assessment.
  • Providing high quality feedback to learners.
  • Encouraging students to reflect on their learning.
  • Engaging students in the construction of their learning processes.
  • Involving parents in their students’ learning through regular parent-teacher dialogue.

Curriculum:

  • Demonstrating a high level of relevant curriculum knowledge.
  • Incorporating relevant thinking and reflective skills into the curriculum.
  • Assessment, recording and reporting on the work of students and attending Parents’ Meetings to meet parents and discuss the progress of individual students.
  • Teaching assigned classes including the supervision of classes for absence cover.
  • Working with colleagues to ensure continuity and progression in the curriculum.
  • Preparation of students for and participation in the conduct of internal and external examinations.
  • Setting appropriate individual student targets in line with the school and departmental targets/policy.
  • Undertaking appropriate training including INSET days at the start of each term.
  • Promoting and participating in your own continuous professional development.
  • Maintenance of a good standard of discipline among students with due respect to their health and safety.
  • Be responsible for the overall performance of your teaching groups under the ‘Every Child Matters’ banner.
  • Actively engaging in teacher learning and development.
  • Continually seeking to improve learning and teaching strategies.
  • Developing knowledge and skills related to Secondary education.
  • Actively engaging in the school’s appraisal procedures.
  • Ensuring an orderly and supportive environment.
  • Participating in and supporting the school’s positive policies and general ethos of respect for all.
  • Ensuring the organisation of resources and the classroom environment are optimum for learning.

Co-curricular activities:

  • Being involved in Co or Extra Curricular Activities to enhance the school experience for learners.
  • Participating in Residential excursions as required.

Other projects, duties and responsibilities:

  • Having a working knowledge of teachers' professional duties and legal liabilities.
  • Operating at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school.
  • Establishing effective and appropriate relationships with colleagues and parents.
  • Setting a good example through presentation and personal and professional conduct.
  • Co-operating with other staff to ensure a sharing and effective usage of resources to the benefit of the school and learners.
  • Contributing to the corporate life of the school through effective participation in meetings and management systems necessary to coordinate the management of the school.
  • Taking part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Days and events with other stakeholders.
  • Any other reasonable request from a manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.

Personal Specification

Education, training and qualifications

  • Appropriate degree, with UK PGCE, or other teaching qualification giving QTS.
  • Working knowledge of the National Curriculum of England including KS3, IGCSE/GCSE and A Levels as appropriate.
  • Evidence of relevant and challenging continuing professional development.

Knowledge and experience

  • Minimum two years’ teaching experience.
  • Be aware and up to date in all relevant safeguarding policies and practice.
  • Knowledge and experience of how to use ICT effectively in promoting student learning.
  • Recent and consistent involvement in pastoral activities.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of working with students for whom English is not their first language.
