Job description

The Head of Partnerships & Development is a senior leadership role responsible for developing and managing strategic partnerships, as well as overseeing the organisation's external communications. This includes cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, securing funding opportunities, and promoting the organisation's mission and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership & Strategy:

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for partnership development, fundraising, marketing, communications, and volunteer management, aligned with the organisation's overall mission and goals.
  2. Provide leadership and direction to the division, fostering a safe, collaborative, and high-performing environment.
  3. Oversee the development and management of the division's budget.
  4. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, making necessary adjustments.
  5. Stay informed about best practices and emerging trends in fundraising, marketing, communications, and volunteer management.

2. Fundraising:

  1. Develop and implement a diversified fundraising strategy, including individual giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events.
  2. Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors.
  3. Manage fundraising campaigns and events, maximizing participation and revenue generation.
  4. Track and report on fundraising progress, providing regular updates to leadership.
  5. Work with the Director of Services & Programmes on the grant writing process, ensuring timely submission of high-quality proposals.

3. Marketing & Communications:

  1. Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to enhance the organisation’s visibility and engagement.
  2. Oversee the creation of compelling content for various channels, including website, social media, email, and print materials.
  3. Manage media relations and build relationships with journalists and influencers.
  4. Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication platforms.

4. Partnerships:

  1. Identify, cultivate, and manage strategic partnerships with businesses, foundations, government agencies, and other organisations.
  2. Develop collaborative initiatives that align with the organisation’s mission and create mutual benefits.
  3. Negotiate and manage partnership agreements.
  4. Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing partners.

5. Volunteer Management:

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer management program, including recruitment, training, placement, and recognition.
  2. Create meaningful volunteer opportunities that align with organisational needs and volunteer interests.
  3. Manage volunteer data and track contributions.
  4. Recognise and appreciate volunteer contributions.

6. Staff Management:

  1. Provide supervision and guidance to staff.
  2. Coach, mentor, and develop staff competencies, including overseeing new staff onboarding and providing career development opportunities.
  3. Ensure staff comply with Company policies and standards.
  4. Oversee HR-related aspects of department staff, including performance management and professional development.

Technical Competencies:

  • Possess strong communication and writing skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent leadership, team management, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong track record in developing and managing strategic partnerships and fundraising initiatives.
  • Proven experience in marketing, branding, and communications strategy.
  • Passion for the organisation’s mission and ability to inspire others.

Preferred Achievements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Non-profit Management, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of working experience and 5 years’ experience in a leadership role within partnerships, fundraising, marketing, or a related area.
