Head of School - School of Business and Entrepreneurship

With direct line reporting to the PVC and President of Curtin Singapore, this role provides academic leadership and oversight of Curtin University's degrees in Business and Entrepreneurship, and related courses. Key responsibilities for the Head of School include the development of industry relationships and the growth of the programs. Additionally, there is a dotted line reporting to the Director and Head of Academic Services. This reporting line will cover all operational, reporting, academic services and resourcing matters including agreement and sign-off financial budgets for teaching costs and related matters.

The role includes responsibility for planning trimesters/semesters, assisting to efficiently and effectively manage the delivery of teaching and learning, managing ongoing and sessional teaching staff and engaging with Curtin University academic staff on quality assurance and benchmarking. It also includes teaching (as agreed by the PVC), research (as agreed by the PVC), and provision of student academic advice and ongoing discipline scholarship.

Key Result Areas

  • Maintain discipline knowledge through scholarship, industry liaison and professional development.
  • Foster innovative teaching and learning strategies that align with those of Curtin University (CU).
  • Manage ongoing and casual teaching staff and the ongoing professional development in their discipline, as well as contemporary teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Teach units in related fields, which may include conducting lectures, tutorials and practical classes.
  • Nominate appropriately qualified staff to deliver teaching, for approval of the PVC and President of Curtin Singapore and CU.
  • Oversee/undertake the implementation of agreed quality assurance processes with CU, including engagement of all teaching staff in CU induction processes.
  • Oversee the timely production, quality control and publication of approved teaching and learning materials and ensure appropriate record keeping of approvals and version.
  • Plan unit offerings for each teaching session with CU and ensure appropriate record keeping of university approvals and versions.
  • Contribute to cross-campus benchmarking processes around CU SL academic outcomes, including the delivery of CU student evaluations.
  • Work with colleagues to implement processes for the evaluation, assessment and continuous improvement of delivery.
  • Contribute to Curtin Singapore academic committee reports.
  • Provide advice to students relating to courses, academic policies and procedures, program progression and other student academic matters.
  • Maintain strong and effective partner relationships with relevant CU Perth and global campus staff, engaging with relevant University academics as appropriate.
  • Assist academic leadership in processing breaches of academic integrity.
  • Assist in the growth of industry partners and work opportunities for students.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

  • PhD in a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in teaching at the tertiary level in a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing to the development of scholarly and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in teaching at the tertiary education level and experience in the administration of units.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage students in learning activities.
  • Proven effective high-level communication, interpersonal, computer and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated evidence of leadership.
  • Demonstrate experience in innovation in learning and teaching, student-centred approaches to learning, and work-integrated learning.
