Position Requirements

The role necessitates an individual possessing robust leadership, organizational, communication, and team-building capabilities. It is incumbent upon the Head of School to formulate a shared vision for the school, and to provide the requisite leadership to guarantee that all stakeholders comprehend the school's mission, vision, and core values. Furthermore, all decisions should be fundamentally guided by these principles.

The Head of School must exemplify strong pedagogical acumen and exceptional leadership, fostering a unifying vision that galvanizes the team. A critical aspect of the Head of School's responsibilities includes ensuring the presence of a robust academic program and a competent teaching faculty, capable of delivering student-centered programs.

CORE RESPONSIBILITY

The Head of School, in a collaborative effort with a team of senior leaders, guides the overall health and prosperity of the school, especially providing leadership to the academic and administrative functions of the campus, developing a clear mission and vision, and ensuring smooth operations. The Head of School has overall responsibility for the daily management of all aspects of the school, including academic and administrative matters, as well as all matters concerning students, faculty and staff.

Working Relationships & Accountability

The Head of School reports to the Country Director, with respect to all matters pertaining to the daily administration of the school. This encompasses the safeguarding and wellbeing of students and staff, in addition to the logistical operations intrinsic to the school's function. They work closely with and are accountable to the Senior Academic Head of Global Schools for all academic programs (and relevant policies).

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Uphold school’s mission, vision, core values, and implement policies, procedures and processes to achieve strategic goals;
  • Lead the senior management team of the school in ensuring a safe learning environment;
  • Lead the Academic and Non-Academic functions;
  • Design and deliver annual Academic priorities and organizational strategies in line with the organization’s business plan;
  • Mentor and monitor teaching and learning practices and results, and where needed, timely interventions for curricular and pedagogical corrections;
  • Ensure the highest standards for teaching and learning;
  • Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff;
  • Attend and present at the Academic Board Meetings.

Financial

  • Work closely with the COO and Country Director on the forecasting and budgeting process;
  • Discuss the previous year's data to determine trends and make predictions for the current year in terms of potential enrollment numbers and the various expenses, such as Human Resources, facilities, projects, academic resourcing;
  • Provide inputs to the staffing budget to ensure learning standards are not compromised.

Functional Strategic

  • Identify and communicate key goals and performance indicators and set measurable targets to evaluate staff’s performance;
  • Develop, monitor, and review strategic plans and processes to best employ expertise, talent and resources for the campus;
  • Liaise with the school leadership team with regards to school initiatives, policy and procedures;
  • Provide leadership in strategic planning and growth of the school, including retention of students and staff, improved academic results on external examinations, and identifying and utilizing non-academic revenue generation streams;
  • Help create a data-driven culture at the school, and supervise and appraise the Senior Leadership Team;
  • Review succession plans for Head of Departments / Coordinators.

Academic Operations

  • Oversee school’s academic programs, Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education, International Baccalaureate, etc.;
  • Strategically orchestrate the academic year, encompassing the recruitment needs, allocation of academic resources, implementation of the curriculum, and oversight of teacher and staff professional development;
  • Share and monitor the curriculum documents with staff, and share progress reports with the Senior Academic Head and Country Coordinator;
  • Provide reports and findings with the Senior Academic Head with matters related to Academic Quality Assurance;
  • Engage and reflect with the Senior Academic Head and the Country Coordinator on all matters arising from the quality assurance process, including understanding student achievements, results and feedback in the campus, and identifying areas for improvement;
  • Provide support to the teachers in order to improve their teaching capacities and instructional techniques;
  • Evaluate teaching programs’ relevancy and effectiveness relating to the development of students’ cognitive, physical, aesthetic, social and moral, and leadership capabilities;
  • Formally observe each teacher at least once a year for the purposes of mentorship and appraisal;
  • Ensure school accreditations are maintained and work is carried out to comply with the policies and procedures as stipulated by the IBO, CIE, CIS, etc.

Non-Academic Operations

  • Collaborate with the Admissions Head to increase admission numbers and strengthen the campus’s reputation;
  • Work closely with the Operations Head to ensure smooth operations in the campus, facilities and cleanliness are maintained, emergency evacuation procedures are developed, IT systems are up-to-date, etc.;
  • Work closely with Human Resources for payroll, training and development and recruitment matters;
  • Work closely with Finance on budgeting and fee collection.

Interaction

  • Maintain relationships with local regulators and ensure compliance with the statutory requirements;
  • Be caring and supportive of the school community as a whole and address complex parent enquiries.

People Focus

  • Establish effective communication systems with all stakeholders;
  • Collaborate proactively with Human Resource to continuously increase competency within the campus;
  • Lead the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of employees in the function;
  • Work closely with the Parents Committee and meet with them regularly to collect input and to share important school news, happenings and achievements.

Sustainability

  • Foster an environmentally green school through projects like ‘paperless school’ by providing training and support to staff in integrating and using school technologies effectively.

Child Protection

  • Safety: Ensure a safe classroom environment, free from hazards, and be aware of emergency protocols;
  • Emotional Well-being: Recognize signs of distress, abuse, or other issues that might affect a child's emotional and physical well-being;
  • Reporting: Understand and adhere to mandatory reporting laws, ensuring that any concerns about a student's safety or well-being are promptly and properly reported to the appropriate parties;
  • Training: Regularly update knowledge on child protection policies and practices;
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information related to students unless disclosure is necessary for the safety of the child or as required by law.

Essential Agreements

  • Promote the School’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values;
  • Build positive relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Be familiar with and comply with all Emergency Evacuation procedures;
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, leadership and faculty, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive and/or challenging;
  • Comply with all agreements and procedures as per the Staff Handbook;
  • Carry out any additional duties as assigned by the school board and/or Country Coordinator.
