Head of Corporate and Investment Banking SG

Job Purpose
The job is responsible for executing the agreed business plans and strategies for Corporate & Investment Banking SG to achieve the team’s revenue budget, country revenue budget, overall P&L, loan growth targets and other performance goals together with his direct reports.

Job Description
The responsibilities include leading the development, management and coverage of key corporate client relationships for CIMB Singapore and driving penetration of client wallet share and customer portfolio growth for Wholesale and Universal Banking products whilst unlocking opportunities for product bundling and cross-selling of non-wholesale products to both corporate clients and their business network within their ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grow the P&L and balance sheet of the department through optimizing balance sheet and resources. Be connected with and understand customers and aim to compete on services and innovation.
  • Vision casting & strategy planning for Corporate & Investment Banking. Develop workable business strategies for both short term and long-term growth within the bank’s parameters and direction and to ensure that the bank will benefit from it.
  • Plan and perform account planning on key client groups with direct reports and Product Teams including Sector, M&A and Corporate Banking teams.
  • Responsible for marketing, structuring and securing mandates from the clients allocated to the team.
  • Originate new ideas and initiatives through new product/solution offerings to clients.
  • Cross-sell & bundle products offered by CIMB Group in proposals to clients. Build client relationships, maintain client service.
  • Keep abreast of the market landscape and key industries highlights in order to envision and create cross-regional and cross-sector business strategies and capitalize on these opportunities.
  • Develop, manage and build relationships with key direct C-Suite client groups.
  • Execute approved marketing and business plans.
  • Coordinate CIMB resources to maximize the probability of securing mandates from clients.
  • Identify, resolve and make decisions on key issues on projects, and lead the negotiation of major issues when such need arises for the successful completion of transactions.
  • Accountable for successful execution and completion of mandated deals and delivery of agreed solutions.
  • Project-manage deals to ensure timely delivery and client satisfaction; and maintain good working relationships internally. Manage project risks and operational risks of the department to avoid potential financial or reputational liabilities.
  • Manage resources, including the effective utilization of manpower for cost effectiveness and productivity.
  • Role model and drive activities to encourage and build desired organizational culture, values and reputation in the Group’s markets and with all staff, customers and regulatory/official bodies.
  • Connect and network with customers.
  • Perform marketing calls to provide financing solutions for CIB clients.
  • Structure and negotiate terms with clients.
  • Effective management of staff performance and progress and provide feedback on training needs and improvement.
  • Motivate and coach staff to perform their role more efficiently and effectively.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, staff counselling, and recommendations.
  • Ensure staff welfare and to keep Management informed of pertinent areas.
  • Encourage team members to think out of the box and develop new team capability to originate businesses that sets CIMB apart from the competitors.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, CIMB policies & procedures, client mandates, guidelines market conventions, and the Department’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all Sector operations are in compliance with regulations.
  • Act as Member of Credit Committee, Business Management Committee, Singapore Risk Committee, Singapore Assets Liabilities Committee.
  • Any other responsibilities/tasks as assigned by the Management from time to time.

Required Competencies And Skills

  • Bachelor or Master's Degree or Professional Qualification in the relevant disciplines (Accounting/Finance/Business/Economics or equivalent professional qualification)
  • At least 10 years of experience in corporate and/or investment banking at an established bank/financial institution
  • At least 5 years of prior leadership position in corporate and/or investment banking role at an established bank/financial institution managing a sizable team
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate and investment banking products and services, including the rules and regulations in the domestic and regional landscapes
  • Good reputation and business network in the corporate / investment banking community domestically and regionally
  • Good track record of hitting sales targets, product development and management
  • Strong networking skills and able to network with high potential market segments to build and maintain strategic long term business relationships
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Able to work in collaboration with other teams
  • Sound people management skills, across regions and in a matrix environment
