About the Head Baker

As the Head Baker at MIJ, you will oversee the preparation, baking, and presentation of a wide variety of baking products, including breads, pastries, cakes, cookies, and specialty items. Your role will involve developing new recipes, maintaining consistency in product quality, and ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards. In this role, you will collaborate closely with management to plan production schedules, manage inventory, and control costs. You will be expected to train and mentor cafe staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Your creativity and innovation will be essential in developing new products and improving existing recipes to meet customer preferences and market trends. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining equipment, ensuring cleanliness and organization within the cafe, and addressing any operational issues promptly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the bakery and ensure a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Develop, test, and implement new recipes and baking products to enhance the product range and cater to customer preferences.
  • Maintain consistently high standards in product quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Manage bakery inventory by ordering supplies, tracking stock levels, and exercising effective cost control.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise bakery staff, ensuring they meet performance and quality expectations.
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations, maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all bakery equipment, tools, and workspaces.
  • Collaborate with management to plan production schedules and align bakery operations with broader business goals.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a baker, with a minimum of 3-5 years.
  • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Creative flair with the ability to develop and innovate bakery products and recipes.
  • Solid understanding of food safety standards and hygiene practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
