Job Summary
The role manages the Fleet Personnel Department, aligning departmental operations with the organization's strategic goals, and collaborating with senior management to drive fleet performance, business growth, and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Alignment
Formulate and implement short- and long-term objectives to align fleet personnel operations with SMC (Shipmanagement Centre) and BSM's (Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement) broader strategic goals.
Analyze maritime market conditions and propose service enhancements to remain competitive.
Develop workforce plans that support company growth and seafaring capabilities.
Client and Fleet Personnel Management
Collaborate with the Managing Director for clientele development, promoting SMC services locally and internationally.
Review and manage crewing agreements and ensure timely recruitment that complies with international and local legislation.
Conduct client meetings to understand their needs and propose solutions.
Project and Budget Management
Delegate client requirements and oversee service quality.
Monitor service budgets and approve client services after reviewing prepared budgets.
Identify and address causes of accidents, proposing training solutions to mitigate risks.
Relationship Development and Problem-Solving
Address personnel behavior and skills-related issues, protecting both company reputation and crew well-being.
Coach and motivate staff for improved departmental performance.
Department Operations
Monitor compliance with both national and international maritime regulations.
Develop analytical reports on recruitment, identifying discrepancies and implementing improvements.
Stay updated on global regulatory changes affecting fleet personnel.
Resource Management
Coordinate staff training, development, and salary progression within the department.
Manage the department’s budget, identifying cost-saving measures and supporting budget execution.
Stakeholder Engagement
Represent the company in industry forums, fostering collaboration and addressing maritime challenges.
Maintain relationships with industry authorities and associations.
Attend BSM Fleet Leaders meetings annually.
Innovation and Technology
Identify and implement technology solutions to enhance fleet personnel management efficiency.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Maritime or Business Management, MBA, or equivalent. Chief Engineer, Master Mariner, or similar maritime experience.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years as a Fleet Personnel Manager or similar supervisory role, with 8 years of marine-related experience.
Skills:
- Deep knowledge of vessel crew requirements and maritime labor laws.
- Strong skills in recruitment, training, and collective agreements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
