Job Summary

My client is a leading fintech that has scaled rapidly over the past decade. They’re looking for a talented finance leader to head the finance function for one of their largest business units.

The Financial Controller is a key member of the executive team who will provide strategic financial leadership, oversee the financial health of the organization, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards to support the company’s aspirations to become a world-class Fintech.

The ideal candidate should possess strong commercial acumen, financial reporting expertise, controllership mindset, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Financial Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement the financial strategy to ensure long-term sustainability and profitability. Partner with the executive team to drive strategic goals.
  2. Financial Reporting & Analysis: Oversee financial reporting, including budgeting, financial modeling, and variance analysis. Ensure accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting to the board, executive team, and regulators.
  3. Financial Compliance: Oversee financial compliance, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, financial reporting standards, and tax regulations. Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to maintain robust internal controls.
  4. Capital Management: Manage the capital structure, liquidity, and funding strategies. Oversee asset-liability management (ALM) to optimise profitability and minimise risk.
  5. Financial Operations: Supervise day-to-day financial operations including accounting, financial audit, operations, treasury, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). Ensure financial systems and processes are efficient, scalable, and aligned with best practices.
  6. Leadership & Team Development: Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture. Develop talent and ensure a succession plan for critical financial roles within the organization.
  7. Stakeholder Relations: Play a key role in liaison with external stakeholders including regulators, investors, capital providers, auditors, and financial advisors.
  8. Corporate Events: Play a key role in supporting corporate events including fundraising, debt issuance, treasury operations, and M&A activities.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. CPA and/or CFA preferred.
  2. 10+ years of progressively broad-based financial leadership experience in the financial services industry.
  3. Expertise in accounting standards and regulations, financial systems, tools, and technologies.
  4. Proven experience in financial planning, analysis, and strategy in a complex, regulated environment.
  5. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  6. Strong leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  7. Expertise in financial services and fintech trends.
