External Engagement Policy Manager, Regulated Industries Policy and Regulatory Strategy

DESCRIPTION

Would you like to be part of a public policy team that is driving the adoption of cloud computing across the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a leading cloud service provider, and the AWS Public Policy team is at the forefront of helping customers maximize the benefits of cloud computing and other emerging technologies like AI by removing regulatory and policy blockers to cloud and AI adoption, and shaping policy frameworks. We are looking for a talented, innovative and motivated public policy professional to lead public policy activities with key external partners across APJ.

Reporting to the Head of the Regulated Industries Policy and Regulatory Strategy team, the successful candidate will proactively create and manage responses to public policy issues, driving external engagement efforts, and ensuring alignment between business priorities and public policy goals. The successful candidate will collaborate with various business units, particularly start-up business units, and external partners to develop strategies that address policy risks to the business as well as manage advocacy initiatives, coordinating in and across APJ and global teams.

Key job responsibilities
Working within the AWS APAC Public Policy team, the successful candidate will:

  1. Work collaboratively and transparently with policy makers and regulators to ensure alignment between core business priorities and public policy goals;
  2. Drive external engagement efforts on economic policy and regulatory issues;
  3. Build strategies to deepen relationships with external partners, with a focus on startups;
  4. Drive strategic third-party engagement and partnership with trade associations, think tanks, non-profits, and academia;
  5. Manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with AWS business objectives, working closely alongside colleagues in other regions;
  6. Facilitate high-level engagements between AWS executives and key stakeholders, including senior government officials, regulators, industry associations, and alliance partners to promote and advocate the company's public policy policies.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, passionate about the possibilities of technology to transform businesses and governments, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. The role is based in Singapore but will require some international travel.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. A Bachelor's degree is required in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Public Policy, etc.).
  2. 5+ years in public policy, with knowledge and understanding of economic policy and regulatory issues preferred.
  3. Written and spoken English-language fluency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Strong knowledge of, and background in cloud computing policy developments in APAC.
  2. An advanced degree in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Affairs, etc.) is preferred.
  3. Demonstrated experience and familiarity with digital policy and regulatory environments across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
  4. Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with others.
  5. Demonstrated strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
  6. Ability to influence and strong negotiation skills.
  7. Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate and government levels.
  8. Ability to maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
  9. Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups and cultures across an organization.
  10. Knowledge of other APJ languages is beneficial.
