OBJECTIVE OF ROLE
The Underwriter is responsible for defining the specific terms of the insurance policy that is agreed upon. On a day-to-day basis, an insurance underwriter will examine insurance applications, conduct extra research, collect background information, and make risk assessments.
The Underwriter is responsible for reviewing insurance applications and screening them based on the criteria of the specific terms of the insurance policy that is agreed upon. The Underwriter will analyze the risks associated with applications and ensure that they meet the minimum criteria.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Underwrites health insurance products such as Term Life, Critical Illness, Hospitalisation & Surgery, and Outpatient.
- Assesses applicant insurability by analyzing information in the application, screens applicants on the basis of set criteria, determines the risk of insuring an applicant, and decides on special terms of exceptions.
- Prepares documents to obtain additional information and makes arrangements for applicants to undergo medical examinations.
- Summarizes medical reports received.
- Proposes underwriting decisions.
- Discusses complicated cases with the Senior Underwriter / Clinical Director.
- Provides advice, when required, to colleagues from other departments.
- Works closely with related departments to ensure that insurance applications are processed timely and accurately.
- Performs miscellaneous duties and provides administrative support as required for research & data analysis pertaining to underwriting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
(A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma / degree in any discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Experience in Insurance or Healthcare would be an advantage.
- Sound understanding of underwriting concepts.
- Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Positive, patient, organized, reliable personality.
- Meticulous and keen on details.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Ability to multi-task and complete tasks within specified timelines.
- Result-driven and self-motivated.
- Able to handle a dynamic environment, flexible and open to changes.
