The incumbent reports directly to and supports the Vice Dean (Office of Student Life) of the College of Design and Engineering (CDE).
To possess a strong working knowledge of the institute database, following the policies and processes related to student wellness, support and college life set out.
To provide advice and a supportive environment to students by active interventions, prioritising risk and communicating issues relating to student life and wellbeing.
To enhance student wellbeing, help students develop pro-social behaviour and emotional skills through targeted programs and strategies that build resilience, coping skills and positive relationships. These are done in partnership with the student wellness and student life team within the Office of Student Life (OSL), University Health Centre at the University level, and other government agencies as required.
To identify and facilitate student and their families’ needs, and provide referrals to internal and external services/providers.
To support individual department student wellbeing and collectively build positive community relationships.
To run wellbeing initiatives and programs as well as rendering data collection to evaluate and provide feedback on college wellbeing programs and strategies.
To deal and respond to emergency issues and students’ crises that may arise and prepare to take on roles and functions related to mobilizing the team, coordinating communication, psychological support, individual and group supportive counselling, media, aftermath interventions, debrief, etc.
To assist and support the College initiatives and events, which include attending the events and updating the social media sites regularly.
To take up additional scopes within OSL as directed by the Vice Dean.
• Degree (Good Honours) and above from a recognized university with specialisation in social work, counselling, or the social sciences such as psychology or behavioural/human science.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience from the Education sector is preferred, such as an experienced education officer who handles student development or student life.
• Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
• Maintains accuracy at work, attention to detail and has a methodical approach.
• Excellent team worker with the ability to negotiate and compromise while considering the views of others.
• Effective communicator with faculty members, students, external parties and agents.
• Has well-developed graphic skills for event publicity, and computer skills, including working knowledge of databases, record management systems, spreadsheets and word processing.
• Demonstrates good interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and the ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
