To lead Transaction Banking (TB) product and processes in APAC to improve the service for clients. SMBC has recently increased investment in the firm’s transaction banking platform and hence looking for a TB leader with expertise to help SMBC drive revenues and strengthen our TB capability.

Job Responsibilities

• To lead the development and implementation of SMBC APAC’s TB strategy and roadmap, working closely with Japan, US and EMEA teams, to strengthen our TB capability in product, and process improvement. This will include direct reporting to Tokyo GM of TB products development.
• To build a high-performing team of TB professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
• To work closely with Transaction Banking Sales team members to promote transaction banking solutions and enhance client propositions. This will involve expanding TB product offerings to clients by identifying needs through collaboration with internal stakeholders, consultants, industry players and customers.
• To gather insights, developing strategic plans and driving initiatives to strengthen TB’s market positioning and client engagement.
• To manage SMBC network including the set-up of new alliance partner arrangements and the review of existing alliance partner arrangements to optimize SMBC’s transaction banking network. This includes managing payments, collections network, H2H connectivity, settlement processes and service level agreements to ensure seamless operations and enhanced client service.
• To be responsible for the TB business budget, overseeing cost management, financial planning, and resource allocation to optimise profitability and efficiency.

Job Requirements

• Proven experience in transaction banking with strong focus on product development and strategy. Extensive experience in TB product development, management and execution.
• Proven track record of successfully achieving and exceeding business targets.
• Experience in managing transaction banking strategy with strong knowledge of regulatory environment and risk management practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with other key stakeholders including in APAC, Tokyo HQ and other regions.
• Exceptional leadership skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
• Ability to work with senior stakeholders especially in APAC and in Tokyo HQ, and regulators.
• Proficiency in Japanese is advantageous as this role needs to coordinate and collaborate across regionally including Business Offices and Head Office in Japan.
