Credit Underwriter (Foreign Bank)

Job Description

The position within the bank Institutional Credit Management’s APAC Underwriting Team works closely with Global Spread Products' ABS and RMBS business and Independent Risk teams in the underwriting, approval, portfolio management and administration of a multi-billion-dollar warehousing loan portfolio secured by pools of consumer receivables, MSME business loans or residential mortgages.

The Underwriter role is responsible for underwriting of securitized loans / warehouses in coordination with origination and deal closing teams.

Responsibilities:

• Respond to Transactors and clients on underwriting requests for credit extensions for new and existing clients, and do annual reviews for complex securitized loan portfolios.
• Conduct and review due diligence and prepare internal committee packages for approval, and follow through to obtain credit approvals from committee.
• If required, work with loan / bond sale team members for the sale or syndication of the loans to other lenders and/or Bond Investors and with Rating Agencies.
• Prepare monthly and/or quarterly reviews of existing borrowers in order to track compliance with various covenants or triggers as outlined in the Credit Agreement.
• Demonstrate a solid understanding of bank products and services within Corporate Banking, Global Markets and the broader organization.
• Be or become very familiar with bank credit and regulatory policies and practices, to ensure compliance with the above and satisfactory ratings from internal and external auditors.
• Leverage existing credit background to achieve Credit Officers designation.
• Provide backup to other underwriting team members to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of underwriting to clients as needed. Recommend changes to process to achieve greater efficiency.
• Potential to travel outside of home base to meet with internal and external clients, conduct due diligence on specific asset portfolios and participate in training opportunities.
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding the bank, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

• 5-8+ years of credit experience, of which minimum of 3 years in securitized loan underwriting or equivalent experience.
• Candidate has quantitative skills with a high proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft based programs.
• Excellent analytical and computer skills including the ability to quickly adopt new technology.
• Additional non-core qualifications which will be considered are:
• The individual should have a demonstrated track record and working knowledge of applying lending Underwriting Guidelines and preferably have some familiarity with the processes of Rating Agencies for securitized products.
• The individual will have the tact and composure to be client focused while also managing internal and external relationships. A successful Underwriter will take ownership while maintaining attention to details and working independently.
• This person will have the ability to read, comprehend, and summarize legal documents collected in the due diligence process or produced by bank’s legal counsel.
• Working knowledge of the nuances of loan transactions under market standard syndication loan format will be weighted in favor of the successful candidate.
• Ability to travel (10-20% of time) on short notice necessary.
