KEY ACCOUNTABILITY (Main purpose of this job):
IB Programme Coordinators visibly support and embrace the CIS mission and values through the International Baccalaureate programmes. IB Coordinators serve as leaders of IB philosophy and pedagogy within the CIS community. They promote the development of international-mindedness through the IB Learner Profile attributes, local and global contexts, and concept-based inquiry learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Key areas of responsibility):
Purpose
- Foster a shared commitment to IB philosophy among students, staff and parents.
- Regularly review and follow all IB rules, regulations and guidelines to support programme implementation and development.
- Use benchmark assessment data to evaluate programme effectiveness and to inform next steps.
- Build positive relationships with the broader IB learning community both locally and globally.
- Ensure teachers receive timely professional development that focuses on implementing the programme and facilitates opportunities for teachers to share professional learning.
- Support the effective use of collaborative planning time for programme implementation.
Culture
- Support the development, annual review and implementation of the assessment, language, inclusion and academic integrity policies to ensure that they reflect IB requirements.
- Advocate access to the programmes for the broadest possible range of students.
Learning
- Ensure that units are up-to-date, organize teaching and learning vertically and horizontally, have clear measurable learning outcomes and meet programme requirements.
- Support teachers through collaborative planning to design, plan and deliver the curriculum.
- Revise and keep up-to-date curriculum documents that are shared with the community through the school website, MyCIS etc.
- Support the development of approaches to teaching that are inquiry based, conceptually driven and situated in local and global contexts and is differentiated to meet the needs of all learners.
- Inspire learning that promotes learner agency, the development of the learner profile attributes and approaches to learning skills.
- Ensure that teaching is informed by a broad range of assessment methods, that includes assessments as, for, and of learning.
- Develop and maintain systems for monitoring, documenting, reporting and measuring evidence of student learning over time.
- Collaborate with other coordinators to ensure overall curriculum coherence and continuity between the IB programmes.
- Support processes that ensure a smooth transition for students between programmes.
- Take an active leadership role in the school wide curriculum review process.
- Collaborate with the other coordinators to coordinate and oversee the curricular aspects of Uniting Nations Week.
Environment
- Advise the Principal on IB regulations so that the schedule allows for the requirements of the programme to be met.
- Advise the Principal on resources needed to implement the programme.
- Maintain systems and processes to document, share and store the curriculum.
- Review and implement systems and processes that support the continual improvement of student learning outcomes.
- Support the social, emotional, physical well-being of teachers and students.
- Ensure that school leaders and teachers participate in appropriate and timely professional learning to inform their practice and are kept up-to-date with programme developments and changes.
- Maintain and keep an up-to-date record of all IB authorised PD completed by teachers over the last five years.
Authorisation/Evaluation
- Take a leading role in the IB evaluation process, which includes documentation and developing, implementing and evaluating action plans and development plans.
- Support the development, monitoring, review and evaluation of the curriculum and student learning outcomes to ensure a systematic approach is taken to meeting CPE requirements for quality assurance.
- Within the MYP and DP programmes ensure alignment with WASC requirements.
Communication
- Ensure teachers are kept up-to-date with any change from the IB.
- Maintain contact with the IB with regards to current communications, policies, PD and other relevant documentation.
- Communicate and facilitate regular sessions with the parent community regarding IB philosophy, curriculum implementation, and assessment, including liaison with the Assessment and Examinations Officer.
Programme Specific Requirements
The PYP Coordinator
- Collaborate with other PYP Coordinators and teachers to ensure coherence in the PoI and approaches to teaching and learning in the French-Bilingual, Chinese-Bilingual and English language pathways through the PYP.
- Depending on programmatic needs may need to have a literacy or numeracy focus.
The MYP Coordinator
- Oversee the Leads responsible for Service as Action, and Personal Project.
The DP Coordinator:
- Oversee the Leads responsible for ToK, CAS, EE, and the Pamoja coordinator.
- Comply with IB regulations regarding the security for the storage, transportation, and/or transmission of IB assessment materials, and procedures related to the conduct of all forms of DP assessment.
REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- A two-year commitment to the position.
- A Master’s degree in education or equivalent qualification for the role.
- A minimum of five years of outstanding IB teaching experience.
- Demonstrated school leadership experience.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to have difficult conversations.
- For programme coordinators within the Chinese-English Bilingual pathway proficiency in English and/or Chinese.
Desirable:
- Member of the IBEN (e.g as a workshop leader, programme leader, evaluation team member).
- Experience as an IB Programme Coordinator.
- Experience as a teacher and leader in bilingual settings.
