Role

As a PhD Research Associate, under the Industry PhD program (IPP), you will work full-time at the SAP Business AI unit while pursuing your PhD degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS). You will conduct cutting-edge research in generative AI and machine learning and publish your findings in top academic conferences and journals. Possible PhD topics include AI agents based on large language models (LLMs), robust LLM-based evaluation, document AI, and synthetic data for anomaly detection. Your research will be supervised by a mentor at SAP and an academic supervisor at the university.

While focusing on research and completing your PhD, you will gain industry exposure through projects with our data scientists and developers to embed the latest advancements in AI/ML into our software products. Successful candidates need to be accepted into the PhD program by NUS.

Expectations and tasks

1. Push the frontiers of AI in an SAP-defined research project
2. Explore and implement recent research approaches and find ways to improve them
3. Understand business processes and assess the business relevance of AI solutions
4. Create excellence in research results quality and system scalability
5. Communicate the relevance of implemented systems and achieved results
6. Work closely with the data science and engineering teams to transfer research results into product code
7. Ability to work in global teams across different time zones
8. Complete all academic requirements and your PhD degree on time

Educational and experience requirements

Required

1. Undergraduate or master's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent fields
2. Acceptance to NUS PhD program
3. Experience with machine and deep learning software packages and frameworks
4. Hands-on with programming languages such as Python, C++, Java, Scala
5. Experience in Large Language Models and Generative Pre-trained Transformer models
6. Strong desire to overcome obstacles and benefit SAP's customers
7. Excellent written and communication skills in English

Optional

1. Publication track record on deep learning and machine learning
2. Operational knowledge of Linux distributions
3. Familiar with Agile/Scrum methodologies
