Material Science Lab is part of the Research and Development facilities located in Shugart building to support all Hard Disk Drives (HDD) and some non-HDD material related selection, qualification, failure analysis, etc. The functions of the lab include performing material, coating and adhesive level selection, testing and qualification for HDDs, and performing component proactive qualifications for HDD programs. In addition, the lab is involved in advanced material development and selection work.
The analyst to perform components & material analysis in terms of organic contamination related area. Investigates, develops, and improvises methods and techniques to resolve contamination issues.
Develops solutions to technical problems through the application of chemistry / material science / engineering principles, theories, and concepts. Investigates and tests components for reliability-related issues.
Works on non-routine problems of diverse scope that requires careful data analysis. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. This job is a career-oriented, journey-level position.
Utilize Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) and other analytical equipment to perform outgassing or extraction tests and data analysis, to qualify the use of components & materials in Seagate HDDs.
Effective team player and good interpersonal skill to work within and with other related departments in Seagate sites (cross-functional / site / country) or suppliers, etc. Strong commitment and meticulous personality. Self-motivated and independent player with strong analytical skills. Able to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways. Must be professional and have work ethic, and able to work under pressure of deadlines. Have good communication skills.
Job requires a Bachelor degree in Science (Chemistry) or Engineering (Chemical or Material Science). Preferable with relevant Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS) experience (i.e., operation, troubleshooting or analysis).
