Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Director, the incumbent will lead the operations of a ThermoFluids & Marine Engineering cluster lab in MAE ensuring a safe and conducive environment for stakeholders. He/she will provide leadership in administrative and technical activities, including operation of all research equipment and ensuring the smooth and safe functioning of the laboratory to enable faculty, research staff, and students to accomplish their academic and research activities effectively and efficiently, in compliance with all rules and regulations of governmental agencies.
The duties include:
- Providing efficient administrative/technical support for faculty, research staff, and students in carrying out their academic/research activities, including operation of laboratory equipment.
- Supporting laboratory teaching classes on Thermal & Fluids Engineering for full-time and part-time undergraduate students.
- Forecasting, planning, and managing budget to support procurement of materials & equipment required for laboratory teaching and research projects.
- Ensuring compliance and safe equipment operation of dual fuel engines test bed, boiler, absorption cycle equipment, etc. in the laboratory.
- Identifying opportunities for continuous process improvement to develop and optimise laboratory space.
- Managing assets and maintaining proper records for inventory auditing.
- Managing data to ensure availability, usability, integrity, and security of data assets.
- Conducting risk management and lab audits to ensure safety standards are compliant with ISO 45001.
- Ensuring safety & security compliance and housekeeping in the laboratories.
- Appointment in Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee, and Staff Welfare Committee.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the school.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Good knowledge of Thermal & Fluids Engineering.
- Experience in DAQ systems (spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes, function generators, amplifiers, etc.).
- Experience in management of operation of engine test bed and powerplant.
- Supervisory skills to manage a team.
- Experience in procurement and budget management.
- Experience and knowledge in risk management, workplace safety and health, including ISO 45001.
- Experience in engine, machining, mechanical assembly, part replacement is a plus.
- Experience in management of chemicals is a plus.
- Experience in Emergency Response Team is a plus.
