Job description

Role Title: Senior Manager, Operational Risk & Assurance, Singapore / Asia
Role location: Singapore Based

How will I help?

As the Senior Manager, Operational Risk & Assurance, Singapore / Asia, you will be responsible for providing independent operational risk oversight, insight, and advice to the WIB LOBs and enabling functions primarily in Singapore Branch, with regional Asia-level coverage as directed. You will be responsible for performing thematic and deep-dive reviews, as well as planned and independent examinations that align with the Group’s 2nd Line Assurance Standard as directed.

You will also:

  1. Review and challenge whether operational risks have been identified and assessed appropriately across all activities in Singapore Branch, and Asia.
  2. Identify and understand operational risks that may not have been identified by the 1LOD businesses and enabling functions in, or impacting Singapore Branch / Asia.
  3. Speak up where risks or other concerns are identified, mitigating actions are inadequate, or where actions / intents do not align with Westpac purpose, values, and behaviours.
  4. Adhere to the Group’s operational risk management frameworks, policies, processes, procedures, controls, methodologies, and standards, and relevant regulations.
  5. Provide oversight of the 1LOD’s adherence to the same.
  6. Provide oversight, insight, and advice to support effective operational risk management, and issue and incident management within the Group’s policy and risk thresholds, as well as relevant regulations.
  7. Act as an escalation point for high risk, high impact, and complex issues and incidents.
  8. Monitor and report on risks, issues and incidents, and control effectiveness across the end-to-end value chains relevant to Singapore Branch / Asia for proper and timely resolution of known concerns, and a well-controlled operating environment to implement the Group’s strategy.
  9. Report material risk exposures and associated issues to the Asia Risk and Compliance Committee.
  10. Monitor that operational risk and control data originated by Singapore Branch / Asia is complete, accurate, and timely.
  11. Plan and deliver regulatory-mandated assurance reviews to senior management with independent and objective evaluation of the adequacy and effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal controls in accordance with the Group’s 2LOD Assurance Standard.

What do I need?

This role suits somebody with:

  1. Degree qualification with at least 7 years of experience in the corporate & institutional banking environment.
  2. Experience in Risk and Control Advisory, and Internal Audit or similar Assurance roles.
  3. Ability to see the big picture yet not lose sight of detail where detail matters. Able to observe, analyse and synthesise information, and connect the dots to form clear recommendations. Able to articulate, defend, or modify these views as needed.
  4. Proven ability to engage collaboratively with stakeholders to understand situations, explore options, and drive for the right outcomes.
  5. Ability to courageously voice your views even if they may be unpopular to ensure the right outcome for the organisation.
  6. Written and verbal proficiency in English. A good command of Mandarin would be an added advantage as there will be assurance review of the China branches.
