Duty Engineer (Hotel, Maintenance and Electrical)

Scope of Position
Supervises the work of the subordinates and extends professional technical guidance/skills when needed. Trains, motivates, and disciplines subordinates and ensures that all work performed is in accordance with specifications. Prepares daily engineering reports and liaises closely with other senior staff on engineering defaults. Inspects all engineering/mechanical fittings regularly and ensures that daily logs of plant/utility meter readings are made. Attends to all complaints/requests for engineering repair/maintenance work and studies Work Order sheets before issuing such work orders of priority to subordinates after briefing them on the technicalities. Conducts regular testing of fire protection systems in accordance with established schedules.

Reporting Line/s
The Duty Engineer will report directly to the Chief Engineer on the day-to-day management of the department.

Duties and Supporting Responsibilities

• Responsible for the assignment of job/tasks to shift technicians and ensures that completed work conforms to the standards established by the Hotel.
• Ensures fire protection systems are maintained and checked periodically.
• Ensures energy conservation measures are attended to and contributes new ideas for further improvement/savings.
• Conducts daily briefings.
• Checks and ensures that daily logs of plants/utility meter readings are recorded accurately at specific intervals and investigates any deviations.
• Liaises with the Chief Engineer on day-to-day control room operations.
• Communicates with immediate subordinates for the daily maintenance of equipment in accordance with established engineering policies.
• Ensures that all subordinates conform to the Hotel’s various policies and enforces such stipulated policies.
• Attends daily meetings and disseminates appropriate information/instructions to subordinates.
• At the end of the shift, prepares shift work order report and hands it to the Chief Engineer.
• Checks and inspects the uniform/attire and grooming of staff to ensure they meet the Hotel's standards.
• Receives all guest/other department engineering complaints and assigns duties to technicians according to the gravity of breakdown and job priority.
• Conducts random inspections of all work done by technicians during the shift.
• Ensures a proper and thorough handover of duties to the Duty Engineer on the next shift.
• Carries out daily inspections of plant rooms, boiler room, fire command center, and generator room.
• During the night shift, ensures that all public areas are checked/inspected for burnt-out light bulbs and instructs immediate subordinates to replace them.
• During the night shift, ensures that the correct engineering stock is maintained in the allocated cabinet and completes the requisition form when stocks are drawn.
• Provides guidance and technical training to immediate subordinates in the performance of their duties.
• In the absence of the Chief Engineer, assumes the duties of the Chief Engineer as delegated.
• Appraises the performance of subordinates and makes recommendations to the immediate superior.
• Any other duties which may be assigned from time to time.
• Exercises control over technical drawings in the control room.

Requirements

• Candidate must possess at least a Higher secondary/Pre-U/A level/College, Professional Certificate/NiTEC, Diploma, Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic) or equivalent.
• Preferably 3 years of working experience in a similar capacity and industry.
• Preferably specializing in Maintenance/Repair (Facilities & Machinery) or equivalent.

Junior roles for technician/senior technician are available for candidates without supervisory experience.
