DUTY ENGINEER

About the job

Based at Mandarin Oriental, Singapore within the Engineering Department, the Duty Engineer is responsible for overseeing maintenance tasks, inspecting mechanical systems, assigning repair work, ensuring compliance with standards, conducting fire system tests, preparing reports, and training and motivating subordinates for optimal performance. The Duty Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer.

As Duty Engineer, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Responsible for the assignment of job/task to shift technicians and ensures that such completed work conforms with the standards established by the Hotel.
  • Ensure fire protection systems are maintained and checked periodically.
  • Ensure energy conservation measures are attended to and contribute new ideas for further improvement/savings.
  • Conduct daily briefings.
  • Check and ensure that daily logs of plants/utility meter readings are recorded accurately at specific intervals and investigate any deviations.
  • Liaise with the Chief Engineer on day-to-day control room operations.
  • Communicate with immediate subordinates for the daily maintenance of equipment in accordance with established engineering policies.
  • Ensure that all subordinates conform to the Hotel’s various policies and enforce such stipulated policies.
  • Attend daily meetings and disseminate appropriate information/instructions to subordinates.
  • At the end of the shift, prepare shift work order report and hand such report to the Chief Engineer.
  • Check and inspect the uniform/attire and grooming of staff and ensure that they meet the standard of the Hotel.
  • Receive all guest/other department engineering complaints and assign duties to technicians according to the gravity of breakdown and job priority.
  • Conduct random inspections of all work done by technicians during the shift.
  • Ensure a proper and thorough handover of duties to the Duty Engineer on the next shift.
  • Carry out daily inspections of plant rooms, boiler room, fire command centre, and generator room.
  • During the night shift, ensure that all public areas are checked/inspected for burnt-out light bulbs and instruct immediate subordinates to replace such burnt-out light bulbs.
  • During the night shift, ensure that the correct engineering stock is maintained in the allocated cabinet and complete requisition forms when stocks are drawn.
  • Provide guidance and technical training to immediate subordinates in the performance of their duties.
  • In the absence of the Chief Engineer, assume the duties of the Chief Engineer as delegated.
  • Appraise the performance of subordinates and make recommendations to the immediate superior.
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time.
  • Exercise control over technical drawings in the control room.

As Duty Engineer, we expect from you:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Higher secondary/Pre-U/A level/College, Professional Certificate/NiTEC, Diploma, Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, Engineering (Electrical/Electronic) or equivalent.
  • Preferably 3 years of working experience in a similar capacity and industry.
  • Preferably specializing in Maintenance/Repair (Facilities & Machinery) or equivalent.
