Job description

As Duty Engineer, you’ll assist the Chief Engineer in managing the engineering/maintenance of your hotel and ensure the safety and comfort of hotel guests and team members. You’ll become a veteran and perform your duties proficiently, motivating and training your team with the skills to keep hotels always looking their best.

A little taste of your day-to-day

Every day is different, but you’ll mostly be:

  1. Recommending to the Assistant Chief Engineer new policies and procedures for a more economical operation and maintenance program.
  2. Participating in the preparation of the annual POMEC Budget.
  3. Supporting and initiating programs for the improvement procedures and the reduction of energy and utility costs.
  4. Analysing and monitoring energy costs and expenditures for the department.
  5. Working with superior in the preparation and management of the department’s budget and being aware of financial targets.
  6. Conducting shift briefings to ensure hotel activities and operational requirements are known.
  7. Interacting and cooperating with other departments when necessary to provide additional or specialized services for functions, promotions, and festivities.
  8. Cooperating and communicating with other sections in the Engineering department.
  9. Issuing warnings to subordinates for infringements of Hotel Rules and Regulations.
  10. Being responsible for the proper organization and functioning of the energy management function of the POMEC Department.
  11. Ensuring all engineering employees follow the Engineering Standards and Procedures as issued from time to time.
  12. Ensuring punctual attendance and adherence to duty schedules by all subordinate supervisors.
  13. Conducting on-the-job training in accordance with departmental standards and procedures and maintaining a record of progress for each staff member.
  14. Providing input for probation and formal performance appraisal discussions in line with company guidelines.
  15. Coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff in breach of hotel policies and departmental procedures, providing constructive feedback to enhance performance.
  16. Interacting and cooperating with hotel guests and outside contractors as directed by superior.
  17. Monitoring the ESCAP system.
  18. Demonstrating awareness of OH&S policies and procedures and ensuring all procedures are conducted safely and within OH&S guidelines.
  19. Being aware of duty of care and adhering to occupational health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
  20. Being familiar with property safety, first aid, and fire and emergency procedures and operating equipment safely and sensibly.
  21. Initiating action to correct a hazardous situation and notifying supervisors of potential dangers.
  22. Logging security incidents and accidents in accordance with hotel requirements.

What we need from you

● A minimum qualification in Diploma in Building Facilities Management.

● At least 3 years of experience at a supervisory level, including management experience.
