JOB SUMMARY

  • Director, Transportation Finance
  • Origination, structuring, coverage and execution of aviation and structured finance mandates in Asia

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Part of the Global Transportation Finance team, based in Singapore, reporting directly to MD & Regional Head of Transportation, ASEAN and South East Asia.
  • Strong origination and structuring focus, maintaining senior relationships with clients, building on existing client relationships and continue to add further new-to-bank relationships.
  • Active role in client and portfolio management, including proactive identification and reporting of risks and concerns.
  • Keeping abreast of key developments in aviation and structured finance and working closely with internal stakeholders across Coverage, Sustainable Finance, Transition Finance, Financial Markets, to engage actively with clients to spot opportunities.
  • Development of junior team members.

Strategy

  • Deliver the Transportation strategy as a key team member and align origination efforts to Global Banking aspirations.

Business

  • Originate aviation and structured finance transactions and targeting cross-sell across CCIB by leveraging existing client relationships and bringing in new-to-bank clients.
  • Client interface at senior levels and ensuring that the engagement, services and quality of work meets the highest industry standards.
  • Effectively use industry expertise, knowledge and professional network for ideation, generating leads for new deals and assessment of opportunities.
  • Structuring of deals including extensive cross border deals, to best meet clients' needs covering solutions ranging from senior and/or mezzanine debt and/or lease options, financing across different parts of the capital structure as well as cross-sell opportunities.
  • Lead in the preparation and presentation of high-quality pitches and marketing materials for client discussions.

Processes

  • Responsible as senior deal team member for end to end aspects of a deal covering origination, structuring, pitching, negotiations, due diligence, execution, credit engagement, approval processes and legal documentation.
  • Efficiently manage multiple stakeholders and deals at the same time working in close coordination with other deal team members, across functions, businesses and geographies.

People & Talent

  • Supervise and mentor junior members of the team and contribute to their learning journey.
  • Lead by example to build the right culture, set objectives and expectations from the junior members and provide feedback through regular engagement.
  • Collaboration with all internal stakeholders especially senior stakeholders across coverage, risk, other product teams in financial markets and transaction banking, and support functions.

Risk Management

  • Ensure that new and existing business is consistent with the Bank's policies, meeting applicable credit and other risk criteria, internal procedures and provide acceptable risk adjusted returns for the Bank, in line with the credit underwriting principles.
  • Pro-active risk management through strong engagement with clients and management of exposure.
  • If and when the situation arise, own-up the transactions and lead the restructuring/recovery along with the distressed/ special assets team.

  • Understand and be aware of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.

  • Embed Here for good and Group's brand and values in structured Finance in London; Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Degree from a top tier university.
  • 10 years of work experience in a bank or financial institution in aviation finance and/or transportation finance.
  • Excellent knowledge of the aviation industry is a must-have requirement with an established industry network and experience working with airlines and lessors.
  • Broader experience in shipping finance, corporate finance, structured finance and/or project finance is desirable.
  • Expertise on financing across debt structures including but not limited to senior secured deals, junior/ mezz facilities, leasing structures, warehousing facilities and working knowledge of other capital markets and structured products (e.g.- ABS) in the industry.
  • Proven track record in bringing in new clients and business and experience in generating tangible cross-sell for other products.
  • Good understanding of sustainable finance and aviation regulations trends in the industry.
  • Strong demonstrated credentials in leading large complex well-structured transactions and confidently dealing with senior management of clients.
  • High quality analytical aptitude, interpersonal/ communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and a passion for excellence.
  • Ability to multitask and deliver under time pressure in a highly competitive and dynamic deal driven environment.
  • A strong command in any Asian language will be an advantage as the role covers Asia markets.
