Director, Health & Safety IPC

Kimberly-Clark is looking for an ambitious, self-driven and talented individual to lead Health & Safety Efforts within our International Personal Care (IPC) Segment. The primary focus is on leading the deployment and sustainability of systems, processes, platforms, and programs dedicated to driving improvement in occupational safety across the various facilities and Accountable Business Units (ABU’s) for which they have assigned accountabilities. This role will execute strategic safety plans that align with Global and ABU occupational safety objectives. Collaborating closely with Site EHS Teams, Mill/Facility Managers, Mfg Directors, and other senior Supply Chain operational leaders.

Role Accountabilities

  • Deploy focus segment aligned health and safety strategies that align with Global Health & Safety on mandatory minimum standards, processes and controls.
  • Deploy Global Health & Safety initiatives in support of the focus segment strategy, including standardized systems, processes, platforms, and programs (based on leading practice) that are adopted and sustained by the focus segment operations/functions.
  • Direct Global Health & Safety talent-building initiatives that ensure the focus segment operations and functions have requisite skills and sufficient capacity to effectively implement and maintain systems, processes, platforms and programs deployed.
  • Conduct routine checks/self-assessments of the site Health & Safety program maturity and performance (i.e., status of compliance and risk management considering local legal requirements and K-C Perf. and Mgt. Standards)
  • Monitor/interpret evolving government policies/legal requirements and assess operational or functional implications, informing the focus segment site and business leaders, recommending action when appropriate.
  • Champion site efforts to elevate/continuously improve Health & Safety program maturity and performance.
  • Capable of using digital systems/platforms to deploy and maintain the focus segment Health & Safety monitoring, measurement and recordkeeping systems to track and ensure required reporting processes (for compliance and other KPIs) are in place and include controls to verify data quality and completeness.
  • Partner with operational/functional leadership teams:
  • To routinely plan, set objectives, establish priorities and allocate resources to achieve targeted health & safety program maturity and performance improvement and/or to address functional sustainability risk/opportunities (as further described in the role-specific accountabilities below); and
  • As needed, to address/remedy critical Health & Safety matters/crisis, especially those associated with health and safety events, audits and/or other matters related to compliance, conformance or reputation.
  • Represent the organization at relevant Health & Safety Councils or forums, contributing to Global Health & Safety initiatives, strategies, plans, etc.
  • Drive a positive safety culture by deploying/sustaining efforts to elevate leadership mindsets and behaviors, specifically encouraging operational leaders in:
  • Safety Culture Leadership: Drive a positive safety culture by elevating leadership mindsets and behaviors; Encourage operational leaders to demonstrate a deep, genuine concern for safety through role modeling and routine actions/communications.
  • Connected Checking and Monitoring: Implement connected checking processes to proactively identify and address unsafe conditions, practices, and behaviors; Monitor the effectiveness of implemented countermeasures and remedies, making timely adjustments to enhance the safety culture.
  • Behavior-Based Observation Programs: Involve the workforce in behavior-based observation programs; Collect and analyze data to aid in formal problem-solving, promoting improvements that further protect the workforce.
  • Staying informed about industry best practices and integrating them into the focus segment safety efforts and activities.
  • Strong Professional Network connections to access and apply subject matter expertise to technical issues and deploy solutions to operational needs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial hygiene, or related science/engineering field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a similar role with environmental, sustainability, health, and/or safety responsibilities for a global, multi-site consumer goods or packaged goods organization
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable, pending and evolving health and safety legal requirements in relevant jurisdictions (international/regional, national, local) pertaining to occupational health/safety, ergonomics, fire safety, environment protection and sustainability.
  • Strong communication skills and aptness to educate and inspire audiences across various levels/functions influencing behaviors/outcomes without direct authority.
  • Excellent leadership and team management capabilities
  • Occasional travel may be required to support the business (up to 25%)
