Role Overview:
A*STAR's Scientific Data Strategy Office (SDSO) is on a journey to transform the way the organisation capitalises on its rich scientific data assets by developing a standardised data architecture that would facilitate data sharing and incorporate world class data practices.
We are seeking enthusiastic and driven individuals to join ASTAR's Scientific Data Strategy Office (SDSO). As this is a newly formed team, the individual should relish rolling-up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty.
For this role, the person will be leading the technical build of the data platform using the latest cloud technologies available on AWS and ensuring that the technical design is fit-for-purpose for the entire A*STAR.
This is an opportunity for the individual to be part of the journey of building up and organization-wide platform that would define how A*STAR works with scientific data from scratch.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Data Platform Technical Development:
Define compute requirements and specifications according to business requirements
Architect the data platform using the latest cloud technologies and at the same time taking care of the operational requirements of a production system that might be used by all A*STAR researchers
Expand Data Products:
Help develop A*STAR's scientific research data products portfolio, including data catalogs, features, dashboards, and marketplaces.
Develop features in the data platform, in collaboration with the business teams, that would drive seamless data sharing and reuse
Implement Engineering Practices:
Be the standard bearer of technical excellence within the team by implementing proper testing and CI/CD processes
Set and implement standards for production-ready code
Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's /Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering or a related field.
Technical Skills:
4-6 years in software development
1-2 years in leading a software development team using Agile methodology
Able to write production ready code.
Proficient in Python backendorReact frontend development. Full stack experience is a plus.
Prior experience in cloud is required
Familiar with unit/integration/UI testing strategies and frameworks
Experience in setting up and implementing CI/CD processes
Understanding of OpenAPI standards
Understanding of code versioning and git branching strategies compulsory
Familiarity with data engineering tools such as Apache Spark or dltHub would be a plus

Strong analytical capabilities to assess data platform and products.
Communication:
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Organizational Skills:
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Collaboration:
Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders across A*STAR entities.
