Job Title: Vice President Research

The Vice President Research office is responsible for driving and defining NTU's research strategy, liaising with the ministry to implement relevant guidelines, coordinating research policies, and ensuring resources are available to deliver NTU's research plans.

Role Overview:

This Deputy Director/Director role will work closely with senior research leadership to provide strategic leadership and operational support in all research matters within the VPR office. Key responsibilities include formulating, implementing, and reviewing research policies and procedures, as well as assessing NTU's overall performance in research initiatives to ensure compliance with university and funding guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Strategic Leadership: Drive change management, lead the VPR Office, and develop policies that guide research activity across NTU.
  • Policy Development and Implementation: Work with stakeholders to coordinate policy formulation, review processes, and initiate new programs to drive RIE and NTU objectives.
  • Research Policy Standardization: Ensure governance and proper implementation of research-related policies across NTU, including schools, colleges, and pan-university research centers.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with various stakeholders, including Research Support Office, Research Integrity & Ethics Office, Talent Recruitment, and Career Support Office, to review processes and initiate new programs.
  • Process Alignment and Improvement: Engage with stakeholders to align, bridge, and improve processes, including senior research leadership, Human Resources, Finance, Procurement, IT, etc.
  • Committee Oversight: Oversee the Committee on Space Planning and Allocation, ensuring effective and efficient use of University space in line with prevailing laws and university policy.
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Develop procedures aligned with NTU's policies and ensure sound corporate governance and compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively develop, review, and drive improvements in research structures, systems, and processes to enhance organization effectiveness.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage analytics to assess research strategies and initiatives, enabling continuous improvement.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage annual budgets for the organization, performing periodic cost and productivity analyses.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree, preferably PhD, with a background in R&D.
  • Proven experience in a similar capacity, demonstrating competency in leadership, strategic planning, decision-making, and stakeholder relationship.
  • Prior work experience in institutes of higher learning or managing research sponsored programs is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in statistical methods and data visualization tools like Power BI.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the education landscape.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to supervise, train employees, and foster a cooperative work environment.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
