Critical Infrastructure Network Engineer

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Critical Infrastructure Network Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.

Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters in 32 countries and millions of servers. Our foundation is built upon and managed by a team of subject matter experts working to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
  2. Demonstrated experience in operational support and providing design input for large-scale, enterprise-grade network solutions.
  3. Understanding of network automation, including scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and DevOps tools.
  4. Familiarity with cloud-scale networking technologies and architectures.
  5. Knowledge of network security best practices and tools.
  6. Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
  7. Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  3. A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and practices in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  4. Proven experience in designing and deploying large-scale, enterprise-grade network solutions.
  5. Experience with NetDevOps practices and tools.
  6. Strong communication skills, with the ability to mentor and guide team members.

Responsibilities

Joining the newly created APAC Critical Network Infrastructure Team, you will be responsible for building core regional capabilities that unlock and accelerate Microsoft’s data center growth across the Asia and Pacific regions. This role is crucial in supporting Microsoft's mission to deliver reliable and scalable cloud services to our global customers. You will collaborate with a passionate and motivated team, embracing a NetDevOps culture to deliver customer-centric solutions and drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement scalable and high-performance network designs.
  2. Lead cross-functional architecture reviews and ensure designs meet functional, performance, and security requirements.
  3. Collaborate with key stakeholders to support data center and network site development.
  4. Drive automation through the adoption of DevOps practices, including automated testing, validation, and telemetry pipelines.
  5. Analyze incident data, traffic trends, and telemetry to proactively address capacity needs and improve network resilience.
  6. Participate in a follow-the-sun on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 operational support, driving swift incident resolution and ensuring high availability across Microsoft’s network infrastructure.
  7. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve network infrastructure.
