Job description

Medical Assistance Responsibilities

  • Responsible for medical due diligence and case direction with respect to designated medical assistance cases on transmission
  • Receive First calls and assess relevant medical related calls
  • Assess each designated case with respect to its medical elements and provide clinical direction to facilitate medical direction and render the appropriate assistance.
  • Provide clinical advice and assistance with referrals.
  • Responsible for ensuring a detailed medical handover of cases at the beginning / end of each shift.
  • Assist with clear case direction during the daily transmission process.
  • Advise and assist with the planning, medical monitoring and reporting of outpatient and in-patient admissions.
  • Collect logistical, medical and collateral case histories pertaining to the medical event / incident.
  • Provide telephone medical assessment for patients in all Assistance Centres and medically monitor the appropriateness of the treatment in their location.
  • Provide medical advice to employees, relatives, their family members and their employers
  • Organize and supervise appropriate medical assistance for employees/employers through the review of medical reporting, referrals and clinical case direction.
  • Keep up to date with rapidly changing health trends, endemic health risks, pandemics and their impact on local health infrastructure.
  • Become familiar and highly competent in navigating internal and external public health resources to provide the most tailored advice for clients.
  • Perform a health needs assessment for clients to determine the availability of the required health resources to support their fitness for work.
  • Provide clear case direction and recommendations for medical transportation of the patient and participate in the medical monitoring and reporting of same.
  • Escalation as per International SOS protocol to the Regional Medical Director or Medical Case Lead of individual Assistance Centres for possible complaint cases, unusual scenarios, and potential transport cases

Medical Liaison and Reporting

  • Collect relevant medical information to produce detailed medical reports that effectively communicate medical progress and information to all types of employees.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and/or in writing with the relevant parties/employers on the progress of the patient and discuss appropriate medical management and dispositional recommendations.
  • Is responsible for the medical information released from the Assistance Centre.
  • Liaises with relevant Treating Medical Officers, Local Medical Officers and medical departments as appropriate to expedite case management.
  • Liaise with medical departments to effectively communicate relevant medical and logistical information in accordance with the client requirements.
  • Undertake public relations calls as required to ensure good communication with all parties and to promote clear understanding with patients, families and clients.
  • Establish responsive liaison arrangements both within International SOS and externally (i.e. medical representatives, patients and corporate companies).
  • Maintain high standards for detailed and accurate documentation including the consistent updating of case files.

Medical Transportation

  • To appropriately manage requests for transportation through the timely escalation to Regional Medical Directors or Medical Case Leads.
  • All Medical transportation Recommendation must be reviewed, agreed and endorsed by Medical Director.

Network Services (NetS) and Referrals

  • Responsible for the medical referral for patients to an appropriate level of care, clinical specialty and provider.
  • Collation of new information on medical providers and facilities encountered and the sharing of this information with the Global Assistance Network (GAN).
  • Participate in site surveys (review of medical facilities), medical audits and provide written reports in accordance with the International SOS’ specification of the network audit tool.

Case Escalation

  • Escalation as per International SOS protocol to the Regional Medical Director or Medical Case Lead of individual Assistance Centres

Communication with medical team of Corporate client

  • Discussion and update to a corporate medical director/doctor must be done by a physician at the medical director level.
  • Recommendation to a Health and Safety and Environment manager, Human Resource manager must be reviewed with Medical Director to decide who should inform the Authorized Person.
  • Medical department of clients must be updated by an International SOS Medical director or Coordinating Doctor if authorized by the Medical Director.

Promotion of International SOS Services:

  • Always ensure a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients.
  • To positively promote international SOS to other organisations and clients.
  • To attend internal and external meetings where appropriate and as requested.
  • Assist with International SOS recruitment and branding events to identify suitable potential staff and promote the International SOS brand for recruitment and client facing events.

Additional Responsibilities

  • To work within and promote all International SOS’s policies, procedures and corporate values.
  • Undertake project work or reasonable duties as requested by the direct managers.
  • Undertake specific training on unique software or programmatic requirements to fulfill the expectation of the role and client.
  • Be responsible for own Continuing Professional Education (CPE). International SOS will endeavour to support appropriate Continuing Professional Education requests.
  • Attend supervision, training and departmental meetings as and when required.
  • Participate and support the Medical Transportation Standards through the process of audit and case review to ensure compliance.
  • Be responsible and compliant with the management of medical equipment room by following the medical transportation standard.
  • Participate in the Medevac on call duties for team coordination and nursing duties as required.
  • Participate in commercial / medical evacuation and in support of International SOS Pte Ltd other medical services

  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own health and safety and the safety of others.
  • To report any injury, hazard or illness as soon as possible to their supervisor.
