Content Development Editor (Mathematics)

Role Description

As a Content Developmental Editor, you will be tasked with the day-to-day responsibilities of managing, creating, and editing traditional and digital content. You will work closely with authors, designers, and publishing teams to ensure that instructional materials are of the highest standards. Part of the work will be done remotely, with flexibility allowing for partial remote work from your location.

Specifically, you will need to

• ensure that the learning materials are aligned with the client’s curriculum requests and have good discretion to balance them against international educational standards
• work collaboratively with authors to develop their manuscripts according to the team’s project brief
• suggest revisions and edits to improve the quality of manuscripts to develop engaging and informative textbooks that support student learning
• provide constructive feedback to authors on how they can improve their workflow and manage their time
• provide insights on the overall architecture of the series based on sound pedagogical practices and subject matter expertise
• suggest additional resources or activities to support the learning objectives of the series
• work with the design team to create visuals and other learning supports for the series

As a member of a multi-functional operation, you have to

• work closely with marketing and counterpart editorial teams to ensure that each series is well-positioned for success
• support the sales and marketing of the series by providing timely ad-hoc information that can be drafted into collaterals, marketing dockets and teacher training workshops
• liaise with HR/logistics manager toverify budgets, contracts, payment terms, reprint schedules and processes, etc
• liaise with designers or developers regarding the production and reviewing of digital products and resources

Fundamentally, any editor in Alston Education, after training, should:

• make editorial decisions with reasonable speed, communicate them clearly, and constructively
• edit and proofread content by checking for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors
• check the final layout of a book for any errors before it is printed
• develop and review supplementary or assessment materials such as practice papers and quizzes
• pick up basic InDesign skills within their first year to help with simple text edits in the final publication phase
• research and obtain permission to publish copyrighted images and/or materials in the publication and cite the sources as necessary

Soft Skills and Qualifications

• Possess empathy and good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and efficiently
• Be innovative and critical in carrying out comparative analyses of curriculum frameworks and syllabi from different countries, identifying and addressing any gaps in ambiguous curricula
• Be able to work independentlyand as part of a team when needed
• Excellent writing, and research skills
• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Possess sound pedagogical knowledge and subject matter expertise to make decisions to develop content that is age-appropriate and culturally relevant for intended learners
• Bachelor's degree in English, Mathematics, Science, Education, or a relevant field
• Prior experience as a teacher in Singapore public schools is an advantage
