Role Summary
We are seeking a Commercial Manager to spearhead our carbon credit market development efforts. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of both the local and global carbon credit markets, alternative marine fuels, and maritime regulations, including the IMO's initiatives and the EU's ETS Scheme, FuelEU Maritime, and RED III. This is a commercial role, best suited for professionals with 2-5 years of experience in ship operations, bunker management, carbon credit trading, or ship broking.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Development:
- Develop strategies to expand the company’s presence in carbon credit markets locally and internationally.
- Identify opportunities in the compliance and voluntary carbon markets for maritime decarbonization projects.
- Client Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with ship owners/operators, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
- Support customer compliance with FuelEU Maritime, RED III, and IMO regulations.
- Regulatory Expertise:
- Stay informed on alternative marine fuel regulations, particularly methanol, and provide updates to internal teams.
- Assist in developing frameworks for compliance with evolving maritime standards.
- Operational Support:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align carbon credit trading and maritime fuel projects.
- Provide technical and commercial insights to support project implementation.
- Market Research:
- Conduct in-depth analyses of carbon credit trends, alternative fuel adoption, and regulatory impacts on the shipping industry.
- Generate reports and present findings to support decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 2-5 years of relevant experience in ship ownership/operations, bunker management, carbon credit trading, ship broking, or classification societies.
- Familiarity with maritime decarbonization efforts and alternative fuels, including methanol, LNG, or hydrogen.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of carbon credit markets and maritime regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret market and regulatory data.
- Additional Assets:
- Experience working with container or tanker operations.
- Background in classification societies or technical advisory roles.
