Job description

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide advice in terms of leadership, direction, and policy guidance to the accounting and financial functions of the Corporate office and its subsidiaries globally. The secondary responsibility of this role is to be the primary liaison between the company and the parent company in Japan for all finance and accounting related reports and questions.

This role is responsible to:

  1. Oversee various accounting operations as well as treasury operations.
  2. Contribute to the development of the company's budgetary and strategic goals through the management of the budgeting process and the completion of financial analyses of company performance against budget and forecast.
  3. Report to the parent company on finance and accounting related matters and respond to the parent company's questions and requests.
  4. Maintain strong relations with the parent company to understand its global financial strategy and its management policies, especially its financial management policies, that apply to the company and its subsidiaries.
  5. Ensure that the financial information necessary for use by the company management and directors is prepared to a consistently high standard and adheres to company and regulatory policies, procedures and standards and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  6. Oversee the preparation of the company records including financial close process, consolidated financial statements and official reports to its parent company and government authorities as required.
  7. Assist to handle communications on complex issues with company auditors and the auditors of the parent company in Japan.
  8. Ensure internal control procedures are established and maintained throughout the company and its consolidated subsidiaries.
  9. Research, analyze and resolve accounting and treasury issues.
  10. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  11. Ensure compliance with Singapore government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  12. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Required skills/Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Economics.
  2. Possess at least 20 years of related experience in finance and accounting with a minimum of 15 years working experience with a Japanese MNC.
  3. Experience in Multinational working environments is required with FMCG experience a plus.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in business Japanese (JLPT N1 certification) to communicate with Japan HQ and auditors.
  6. Strong background in financial risk mitigation measures.
  7. Extremely strong managerial and analytical skills, intuitive, optimistic, and able to lead and motivate people.
  8. Able to manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities through effective time management.
  9. Able to work with a variety of different business and local cultures will be integral to succeed in this role.
  10. Able to cope with stressful deadlines.
  11. Able to understand new issues quickly and make wise decisions.
  12. Able to travel to developing countries.
