Our client, a chemical plant company located on Jurong Island, is seeking a Chemist/Chemical Engineer.

As a member of the technical services team, this individual will be responsible for managing and controlling the lab polymerization facilities. The role involves designing and optimizing the creation of polymer materials, as well as supporting production processes, including scaling up, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement efforts.

Job Responsibilities:

Development: Design and synthesize new polymers, conduct experiments to study structure-property relationships, and analyze data using spectroscopy, chromatography, and thermal analysis.

Polymer Production & Processing: Develop and optimize production processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and collaborate with departments to integrate new polymers into existing production lines.

Material Characterization & Testing: Evaluate polymer properties through mechanical, thermal, and electrical tests, determine suitability for applications, and modify formulations as needed.

Communication & Collaboration: Document research, present research results to colleagues, management, or external audiences, collaborate with teams, support product/process training, and mentor new lab staff.

Laboratory Management: Ensure safe operation and upkeep of laboratory, schedule and plan lab work, manage equipment and inventory, and train new lab personnel.

Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience: Degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or equivalent. Experience as a Chemist preferred, but Junior Chemists may apply.

• Technical Skills: Knowledge of polymerization mechanisms, polymer characterization, and chemical experiments. Proficiency in spectroscopy, chromatography, and thermal analysis. Ability to interpret and analyze data.
• Regulatory & Safety Knowledge: Understanding of hazardous materials (SDS & Singapore regulations) and safety best practices.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, and project management abilities. Meticulous, resourceful, and ethical with a high level of integrity.
• Technical Tools: Proficiency in MS Office.
