About the Role
To augment our manpower resources in the School, we are looking for a Business Development Manager/Assistant Manager who will support our business expansion locally and globally, particularly in Southeast Asia and China.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the successful candidate will need to have a mindset of problem-solving and consultative customer outreach and will demonstrate curiosity, collaboration and the ability to deal with ambiguity similar to that of a start-up environment. The successful candidate will also be result-oriented, have a clear vision, have a keen read of the market, be able to put together a scalable business strategy including how to grow the sales pipeline for open enrolment courses, engage with clients and be capable of building successful long-term relationships.
This role is offered on a 3-year renewable contract basis in the first instance, with the prospect of a regular open employment contract thereafter subject to satisfactory job performance during the first 3 years.
Remuneration is based on a 12-month salary structure, with an annual variable bonus which is subject to the incumbent’s performance and the University/School’s prevailing remuneration policies.
The incumbent will be emplaced at an appropriate appointment grade based on his/her individual merits.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Define opportunities and engagement plans, manage the sales cycle from lead generation to deal closure, building effective customer relationships, and suitable positioning of NUS’s products in the right marketing and sales channels
• Oversee marketing activities related to open-enrolment courses, including liaising with marketing agencies, evaluate positioning and messaging, and generate communication materials
• Lead sales engagements across opportunities, building relationships and trust, fostering collaboration and customer experience
• Become the voice of the customer internally, sensing customer needs and external market changes and communicating these insights across the organisation
• Build strong relationships cross functionally, work closely with SCALE’s Corporate Services Unit (including Finance team), L3 Data Stewardship Unit, Adult Learning Experience team, as well as the various Schools and Faculties across NUS
• Embrace and leverage a variety of software tools to manage the process and delivery of online programmes
• Able to convey SCALE’s value proposition, and able to demonstrate our products and technology live and via online presentations
• Support institution-building projects that play a critical role in helping SCALE deliver our mission in a sustainable and scalable manner
• Keep abreast of global industry trends and competition
Requirements:
Academic & Professional Certification
• A suitable bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a reputable university
• Strong English proficiency, both written and spoken, is essential
• Being conversant in a second Asian language, e.g. Chinese, Bahasa, Tagalog/ Filipino, Vietnamese, will be an advantage in managing clients in the region
• IT savvy and proficient in SAAS
Experience & Attributes
• At least 5 years proven track record working in a fast-paced environment, and experience in stakeholder management, with at least 1 year of commercial business development experience in Asia
• Exposure to international executive education, youth programmes or corporate development
• Familiar with CRM systems and experienced with web-based marketing
• A strong desire to win, and to continually develop personal and professional skills
• A start-up attitude, intellectually curious, highly collaborative, with an entrepreneurial temperament and excited about a flat, “all hands-on-deck” environment
• Strong project management ability to drive multiple work streams and manage senior-level stakeholders in diverse settings
• Ability to independently design and conduct research, gather data, and structure quantitative and qualitative analyses and present arguments to senior management
• Highly self-motivated with the ability to work fast and smart independently
• Passion and excitement to be part of a mission to transform the way higher education is delivered
• Comfortable with ambiguity – we are a fast-growing business and there will always be unchartered territories, which is part of the fun; the incumbent should be comfortable with it and understand that not everything is 100% defined all the time
