AVP, Business Analyst, Structured Finance - SMBC

The Business Analyst (BA) will serve as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring banking solutions align with the organization's goals. The role involves gathering and analyzing requirements, recommending process improvements, and driving the implementation of systems or products related to banking services. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial products, regulatory frameworks, and technology trends in the banking sector.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Requirement Gathering and Analysis
    • Collaborate with business units where required (Central Planning, HR, Legal, Central Transformation, Asia Innovation Center etc.) to understand their needs and define requirements.
    • Document business processes, workflows, and functional requirements.
    • Conduct gap analysis between current operations and desired outcomes.
    • Translate business requirements into technical specifications for development teams.
  2. Solution Design and Recommendations
    • Work with technical teams to design solutions that align with business goals.
    • Evaluate potential banking software, tools, and platforms to recommend suitable options.
    • Ensure solutions meet business requirements and comply with banking compliance and regulatory guidelines.
  3. Project Coordination and Stakeholder Communication
    • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, IT, vendors, and other project teams.
    • Manage project timelines, scope, and resources in coordination with project managers.
    • Prepare reports, KPIs, pipeline and presentations for leadership and stakeholders to provide project updates.
  4. Testing and Implementation Support
    • Develop test cases and scenarios for user acceptance testing (UAT).
    • Coordinate with QA teams and business units to validate and test solutions.
    • Monitor the implementation process to ensure smooth deployment with minimal disruption.
  5. Risk Management and Compliance Monitoring
    • Identify risks associated with processes, systems, or projects and propose mitigation strategies.
    • Ensure banking solutions adhere to local and international regulatory frameworks.
  6. Process Improvement and Optimization
    • Analyze existing business processes and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive practices to recommend improvements.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, Master's in Finance) preferred but not always required.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, CBAP, or PMP) preferred but not always required.
  • 4-5 years of experience in a related role in Finance, ideally within the finance or banking sector.
  • Familiarity with financial markets, accounting principles, or banking operations is often essential.
  • Data Analysis Tools: Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and experience with financial analysis tools (Tableau, Power BI, or other data visualization software).
  • Presentation Skills and Familiarity with Powerpoint.
  • CRM Systems: Familiarity with ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle) or CRM systems is a plus.
  • Programming Skills: Knowledge of Python, R, or VBA can be beneficial but is not always mandatory.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to analyze financial data, identify trends, and generate insights.
  • Ability to interpret financial information and translate to visuals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to create reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management, including scoping, timelines, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Experience with Stakeholder Management and Communications.

The Business Analyst for the Structured Finance Dept will be part of the Planning Group. This role is critical in supporting key initiatives like consolidation, and analysis of pipeline data, coordination of tech initiatives on the firm's strategic platforms, CRM systems and call reporting data. The Business analyst is also expected to operate autonomously, run smaller projects and take up dept initiatives where frequent collaboration with other departments are necessary. The mindset of this individual has to be positive and inquisitive. The candidate has to be proactive in coordinating tasks and knowledge of actively tracking and providing succinct and meaningful project updates will be expected.
