The role of the AV/IT Systems Specialist is to provide effective and efficient technical support in the maintenance of the automated and/or computerized systems in the Production Services Department. These systems support the various productions that take place within the Esplanade. As such, this position may not necessarily be show related but are frontline troubleshooting and diagnostic service to the systems, in their area of specialization, that support the ongoing productions in any of the Esplanade venues.
The jobholder is required to apply high levels of disciplinary expertise or specialized knowledge. You must have the broad insight and the technical expertise to deal with situations requiring well-developed, deductive, evaluative and investigative skills. You are expected to supervise other technicians in your area and may be required to conduct formal teaching/training within your area of expertise. The AV/IT Systems Specialist is responsible for the daily maintenance and the security of these systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Production and technical services/operations
- Assists supervisors/managers and stakeholders in ensuring that production and technical needs of users are met in their respective areas of expertise.
- Working together with Technicians in ensuring that a high level of safety, quality service and craftsmanship is maintained.
- Check and maintain the equipment and/or systems so that they operate smoothly for plotting sessions, rehearsals, and performances.
- Assists in other areas (not just within own specialized area) when needed.
- To provide operational support as and when necessary.
Maintenance of all technical equipment
- Tests and services all equipment on a regular basis, ensuring that they are in good working order at all times.
- Provides first-line repair, troubleshooting and diagnostic services when necessary.
- Document, updates and maintains maintenance and procedures logbook/database.
- Assist in executing preventive maintenance checks and proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
- Keeps current with all advances and updates to equipment and systems and properly installs and tests all upgrades according to best industry standards.
- Be “on call” for emergencies whenever systems problems occur.
- Keep current with all appropriate licenses, training, and certification as deemed necessary to the position.
Tech Production IT Implementation
- To manage production IT network services and ensuring the security and performance are monitored and protected.
- To ensure that production IT services and assets are properly documented and maintained and responsible for all relevant system documentation.
- To assist CAPEX implementation for new and replacement of hardware and software.
Technical Production IT services and support
- To ensure that operating system and software upgrading/patching are of current version and security is up to date and system performance is monitored.
- Responsible to upkeep the system account and accessibility.
- Be “on call” for emergencies whenever systems problems occur and take remedial action to ensure that the IT services operate efficiently.
- To co-ordinate with vendors for any maintenance and onsite service support.
Housekeeping of all technical equipment and production areas
- Cleans all technical equipment when and where necessary after use.
- Maintains a cleaning schedule for systems as appropriate.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Degree, diploma or equivalent qualifications in a technical field.
- Equivalent experience without qualification will be considered.
- Relevant AV or IT certification from renowned audio institution or manufacturer.
- Dante certification level 1,2,3, Dante Domain Manager Administrator certification, Cisco CCNA.
- Training in basic electrical work, stage lighting, mechanics, rigging, technical theatre, automation, audio reinforcement, and electronics.
- Minimum 1 - 2 years of experience or equivalent as a system engineer or specialist in this field managing and operating audio-visual systems in the Performing Arts/Live Entertainment industry or similar/related field or trade.
- Able to work independently.
- Strong knowledge of AV industry systems, including displays, projectors, sound systems and video conferencing tools, like Extron/Creston/Biamp/QSC etc. Programming will be an added advantage.
- Ability to interpret and communicate ideas and information effectively.

- Adept at working safely with hand and power tools including while working at height.
- Capable of the manual handling of heavy objects.
- Good working knowledge on operating systems like Windows, Macintosh OS, Microsoft Office 365, IT and Networking etc.
- Irregular working hours and "hands on" work is expected.
