Job description

DBS is a leading financial services group in Asia, with over 280 branches across 18 markets. Headquartered and listed in Singapore, DBS has a growing presence in the three key Asian axes of growth: Greater China, Southeast Asia and South Asia. The bank's capital position, as well as "AA-" and "Aa1" credit ratings, is among the highest in Asia-Pacific. DBS has been recognised for its leadership in the region, having been named “Asia’s Best Bank” by The Banker, a member of the Financial Times group, and “Best Bank in Asia-Pacific” by Global Finance. The bank has also been named “Safest Bank in Asia” by Global Finance for seven consecutive years from 2009 to 2015.

Business Function

The Risk Management Group works closely with our business partners to manage the bank’s risk exposure by balancing its objective to maximise returns against an acceptable risk profile. We partner with origination teams to provide financing, investments and hedging opportunities to our customers. To manage risk effectively and run a successful business, we invest significantly in our people and infrastructure.

As a rapidly growing number of stakeholders globally across governments, private and financial sectors as well as society at large embrace the urgent need to address environmental and social challenges, we recognise that banks have a two-way relationship with climate - climate change has risk implications on the portfolio of banks and bank lending affects the climate via the financing provided.

Responsible for managing the Bank’s climate risk and Net Zero agenda, the role will play an important part in the quantification, monitoring and reporting of our financed emissions against our science-based targets. Through this, you will help the business understand their impact which guides their strategies and business decisions.

The role will also give the candidate the unique opportunity to be exposed to the rapidly growing field of climate risk including areas of transition, physical and nature risk.

Responsibilities

  1. Quantify and report DBS Bank's Scope 3 financed emissions in line with GHG Protocol, Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), ISSB and other relevant standards
  2. Drive the analysis of sectoral emissions profile to provide insights to internal stakeholders, including business teams
  3. Support the automation of our financed emissions models including collaborating closely with technology and data teams on code development, data sourcing/ingestion, validating the integrity of data to be used, and proposing solutions and strategies to tackle challenges
  4. Keep abreast of the evolving regulatory landscape and support the interpretation of regulatory expectations to ensure risk compliance
  5. Keep updated on the latest industry best practices, literature, data and frameworks, to contribute to continuous improvement in the Bank’s climate reporting

Requirements

  1. Strong qualitative and quantitative research and analytical skills
  2. Proficiency in SQL, Python/Pyspark and other advanced analytical languages/tools
  3. Experience in emissions reporting, environmental analysis or sustainability consulting is a plus
  4. Proven track record in stakeholder management along with working across functions to drive collaboration, success and achievement of common goals
  5. Analytical and creative problem solver, effective communicator and strong team player
  6. Strong conceptual skills to drive methods, models, data mining, etc., and the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical solutions
  7. University graduate or above with a major in a quantitative discipline, risk management or finance
  8. Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in areas described above
