The Associate Counsel provides corporate commercial legal advice and support for various activities among the Zebra business units and functions in Southeast Asia (for example, Sales, Marketing and People Team). The Associate Counsel needs to understand business objectives, provide sound legal advice or structure deals to meet those objectives while adhering to Zebra’s company policies, draft contracts to reflect agreed deal structures, negotiate these contracts to completion with opposing counsel or management representing customers and advise on the enforcement of contract claims for and against Zebra.
The Associate Counsel is also integral to the company’s supply chain operations and will negotiate and draft contracts with contract manufacturers and suppliers who provide essential components for product assembly. The Associate Counsel ensures that such procurement contracts are aligned with Zebra’s strategic objectives, compliance requirements, and risk management frameworks. This includes identifying and mitigating potential legal risks, securing advantageous terms, and addressing any disputes or issues that arise during the contract lifecycle.
Additionally, the Associate Counsel is responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating various contracts related to indirect procurement, encompassing agreements for recruitment services, consultancy and other professional services.
Primarily a generalist/corporate commercial role, this position offers opportunities for regional specialization in specific legal areas such as anti-trust, privacy, litigation, etc. The role may also involve participation in global projects and initiatives across the APAC region, including providing support on legal matters in countries such as Japan, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
This candidate is a proactive team player with strong intellectual curiosity who can work independently. They must be eager to absorb new information and quickly develop the required legal skills and subject matter knowledge, in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preferred Work Experience (years):
A minimum of 5-9 years’ post qualification experience, ideally split between in-house roles with a multinational corporation and practice as a lawyer within a reputable law firm.
Preferred Education:
Graduate or post-graduate law degree from a recognized educational institution.
